Location: the land of heat and rain. | We have a few hens. They are 3-4 years old. One of them hasn't been feeling well for about 3 days. She'll just stay on the roost or on the ground. She seems sluggish, but her eyes look clear. If we take her out of the hen house she'll stay out. She'll eat a little grass or bugs on her own, we'be been hand feeding her some scratch grains along with a few meal worms. She seems to be eating fine. We bring her water and she drinks fine. She finds her way back to the coop in the evening. Of course this is my kid's favorite hen. Does any one have any idea what might be wrong or what we can do to perk her up or get her feeling better? The vets here in town do not see chickens.

Location: sunny california | my neighbor just delt with a sick hen. she kinda sat funny. well she was egg bound and did die. well this lady can feild dress a dear in 30 minutes so she just cut that chicken open and saw a huge thing in there it looked kinda eggy. I hope yours gets better. |

| Could be egg bound. Do you have any way of knowing if she has layed in the last three days? Is she pooping normally/ok?

Location: Where the stars at night are big and bright, TX | I agree maybe egg bound. Any other symptoms, I'd be looking into AB's too. I don't know if your vet knows anything about chickens but I'd want to know in case she's got something the rest could get. |

| What breed is she? She may be egg bound. Is her abdomen swollen, and is she passing anything? If this is the case, it is probably either egg yolk peritonitis or a tumor in her intestines. If she is a pet, a vet check may be necessary. I lost two hens to tumors recently, they would have been four years old in a few days. |

Location: the land of heat and rain. | Thanks for the replies. We'll have to look up how to see if she is egg bound. Our chickens free range during the day and go to the coop at night, so I don't really know if she's been pooping or not. A friend suggested a little epson salts in case she had somehow gotten poisened. We keep food in water in front of her. She likes to hang out under the porch where it's cool. She is walking around and her eyes are clear. I'll check that site for an avaian vet. Thanks. If any one else has anything to add please do so. |
