Interesting topic. My mare is 6. At age 3 she started not liking to be cinched. I figured saddle. I've tried like 4 saddles w/same issue. She now has a small bump on each side of her cinch area..maybe elbo height. Thinking that's what's bothering her. Caused by what? Cinch? Maybe I'll try a different one also.

I would change the cinch, the lumps are more than likely from the rubbing of the girth i would go with something softer like the merino wool or fleece. Though fleece doesnt always hold up well to constant use where as the merino wool does

I've been real happy with my shearling cinch that I bought from Doctors Fosters and Smith
( off their web site
). They had the best price at the time I was looking.

the fuzzy cinches! shearling PC, I have a gelding that has extremely sensitive skin and this is all I can use on him without tearing his poor hide wide open.

I made a switch on Sunday from a mohair non-covered ring cinch to a wool covered ring cinch. The horse went from not turning to the right to making a decent right turn. I noticed after a morning pole run some welps under the cinch rings on him. Made the change and he seemed to like the changes. I have not called his owner on this but was to have the vet out in the morning for hock check. May just cancel that!
