Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | So......i know there are a few, but I want to know again, who on here actually likes snakes?????
My husband is unbelievably horrified of them. He will squeel like a girl and run and hide.....
I love them. All of them. Hubby has let me educate him some and he gets close to them now but I doubt he will ever touch one.
Anyways.....the other day hubby was weed eating...he came running back to the house and got me, a gun, and my quad....made me drive him back down to where he was weed eating....said there was a snake and wanted me to find it so he could shoot it. He said he was certain it was a copperhead. It was just so funny that he comes to get me :)
Fortunately, it was a copper head, but he had already hit it with the weed eater enough to kill it. I'm just glad he didn't get bit. Though I think I'm been nominated to weed eat from now on. That's the second time nubby has gotten a snake. First time he actually shot him and unfortunately it was a prairie king snake :(:(:(
The nice thing is now hubby is more careful and will do his best to see what kind of snake it is first.
Anyways, a stupid AIT soldier picked up a snake at the barracks this morning. I say stupid because first they had no idea if it was poisonous or not (they ALL got in trouble and had to get a lecture) and second because they aren't supposed to be messing with stuff like that, for their safety and the snakes safety.
And what does my hubby do???? He gets an ice cooler....has the soldier put it in there, and brings it home for me :) I think it's another prairie king snake, definitely not poisonous.....
Anyone wanna see a pic?

| I like snakes! My hubby is also a squealer! He hates them with a passion. We were mushroom hunting last year and I hear a squeal...it really was a squeal, and he makes me go pick the mushroom even though he had long since scared the snake away! LOL

| My husband was born and raised in the high country of Colorado. Not many snakes around there, so when we moved to Oklahoma he had no idea what he was in for. we had staked up 20 bales of straw or so for the garden out in the field and I needed it moved so we could extend our fence. He was on the tractor and as he started to move them and pick them up about 4, massive, black rat snacks came out. One was on the bucket, the others moving up the hay. He didn't even bother to turn the **** thing off, he was out of there!! I think I peed my pants that day from laughing so hard! I had to finally do it my self because he was convinced that I set him up and there was no way he was going back over there. I didn't know there would be four in there, I figured maybe one. |

I thought so too ,,, You should see the bigger ones out here they are so darn pretty, and they get pretty big, the biggest I have have caught and moved away from the house was about a 5 footer. I have had to kill a rattelsnake here at the house a few weeks ago. Was not the first and wont be the last, darn it. I got rid of most of the grown rat snakes, and that was a no no out here, now I am having problems with the Copper heads and rattlesnakes, the rat snakes kill and eat the bad snakes. So now I just let the rat snakes alone, I want them to eat the bad ones for me. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | I love them. Well...not so much the poisonous ones...those I will exterminate on the property. Last night my S.O. called me over to where he was standing by the climbing roses. He says "Come here...But don't you DARE touch it!". He knew I'd want to mess with it...mostly because it freaks him out that I'm not afraid of them. It was a big beautiful black rat snake!
Rat Snakes are excellent climbers and it climbed right up into the roses and looked at us on eye level. of course I touched it...the snake didn't mind much...but HE was not amused! |

Location: Never in one place long | I used to be absolutely terrified of them because my Mom is scared so I grew up with her fear of them.... she was chased by a blue racer as a child and that made her fearful!!
I have since tried to tell myself their not dangerous and aren't evil lol! I will not kill them unless they're in my house or trying to hurt me, I just move away and let them be but if I see one, it still scares the heck out of me and I might run! If I'm where they can't get me, I will watch them. I won't let my husband hurt them, he hates snakes. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | I like snakes. I like to see the rat snakes and king snakes around my barn. My ignorant neighbor kills every one they see... then they complain about mice. It kinda makes me sad that the rat snakes will just lay there while they go get their shovel, but the cotton mouths will run so they don't really kill the bad ones all the time. I will kill the poisonous ones. I also don't like the huge pythons like the ones that have become a problem in Florida. I like being high up on the food chain, and I just feel like anything that gets big enough to kill a human just needs to go. Those things scare me. There has only been one near me that got loose from someone's house, but I've heard stories about people seeing a few in the swamp nearby. |
