LRQHS - 2014-06-02 7:05 AM I stopped at, "would you own one?"

Nope, I'm too old and fragile for a demon horse.
Speaking of....me needs Man Eater update!

Man Eater no buck....no ever.....real big disappointment there lol.....dude says she'd make a great family horse.
She's still there. I think he really likes her and is secretly trying to steal her from me........

My rope gelding is cold backed no matter how many days a week you ride him. I agree that this is due to rough handling when they get rode as youngsters. If is has been a few weeks i will lunge him in the round pen otherwise all it takes is literally trotting around at the end of my reins for a few laps. But he is the best horse i have had in awhile that's for sure. He is at least nice enough for you to get completely on and settled before he crow hops around if you dont lunge him for a couple min.

Thanks for all the input!

He is a little older, not a baby. He's around 8. So I too was thinking because he is obviously just green broke, and had a couple of unfortunate situations, he is just reacting to how he has been treated by people who seemingly didn't want to take the time out and be patient to make him the horse he should be. Some people who have seen him at the trainers are saying he is just spoiled. That may play a part in it also. But only 5 days into training so far and his outlook is promising right now. =]

I would share a pic, but can never figure it out, like a lot of other folks.

I agree with other posters I don't think he's cold backed I think he's green. He may be 8 but mentally he's probably only 3 or 4 as he hasn't had the good training experiences that other horses his age typically have.

To me cold backed horses are horses that when you get on and ask them to lope off right away they get a humpy or crow hop. I consider cold backed horses to be horses that with good correct warm ups they are no problems but ask them to work right away (lope, gallop etc.) without that warm up and they'll get bucky.

See what the 30 days brings. He's 5 days in and stopped bucking at the start so I'd see what another 25 bring.

Best of luck :)
