| I'm guessing its muscle. I think he will just need some time off but is there anything I can do to help? I've started cold hosing (I usually do after every ride but just a quick full body). Any liniments or anything you would recommend.
I'm hoping its just like when you do weights at the gym and muscles hurt for a few days. I've been encouraging him to stretch out and run on his non-fav leg.
His first race would be this coming weekend.....

| Get a BOT sheet. It will help the shoulder. Also if you have access to a laser or Theraplate that would help also. |

Location: Central Texas | Check his feet. I thought mine had shoulder soreness issues and it actually turned out to be some navicular issues. The sore shoulder was just because of compensation due to feet soreness. Hope yours is as simple as just soreness from exertion. |

| He looked a little better tonight I think. I rubbed him up with mineral ice.
Don't give me heart attacks - navicular... hopefully not!
Thanks for the input tho! keep the ideas coming! I'm a little scared of the BOT stuff, the weather is getting hot here now.
So far have cold hosed for 15+minutes, sponged bath with absorbine vet liniment and tonight we massaged in a lot of mineral ice. I trotted him out before the mineral ice he just seems off now - hopefully he will be even better tomorrow. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | I thought my gelding was sore in the shoulder for the last few weeks. I was using liniment, massage, hosing and giving him some rest. Nothing worked. He'd be better for about 15 minutes of riding and then start having issues again. He never felt like he was limping, just stiff and was paddling. Took him to the vet yesterday. Turns out he had a strained suspensory ligament, mild thankfully. We gave him a shot of cortisol. He's on stall rest for 3 days with sweat wrapping too. Then he'll have small pasture turnout for two weeks. I thought he'd gotten kicked in the shoulder. Next time I will remind myself--vet first. |

I had the same experience with one. Thought it was shoulder, she would warm out of it and be fine, limp the next day. Went to the vet and it was a sore suspensory. Most of the time when I think it looks like shoulder soreness, it's been in the foot or leg. |

| I have a mare who hurt her suspensory also and she would try and bite me when i would brush her shoulder. I had PRP done on that suspensory and her shoulder is just now starting to feel better. No more pinned ears and wrinkled up nose. She also got sore in the SI area due to compensating for the front end. Its amazing how many secondary sorenesses will appear from a front end lameness. |
