| I'm wanting to try a bit of a longer shanked chain mouthpiece bit for my gelding that needs some lift and a tad bit of rate when asked for speed. So I came across the Goostree short double gag chain bit...but how come no curb chains needed? Opinions on the goostree? Thank you |

Location: WI | I can't explain the answer but I'm not sure this would be the bit for you. My understanding is these are allot like a sliding draw bit. Not much for lift and whoa. |

Location: louisiana | i run in the simplicity bit, it doesn't give very much lift at all. I have whoa with it but my horse is lighted mouth. So when i notice i need more lift i swap to the charmayne james lifter bit the short shank and it works fine for me |

Location: oklahoma | If you need lift there is a goostree bit made just for that. It is called a lifter bit has many mouth pieces to choose. You can use curb straps with any of them and different types of curb straps. Depending on your horse and what type of action you are needing to achive with the bit. More control, less control, quicker or slower responses. You can also turn most of the goostree bits upside down and you have a different bit. For example short shank lifter if you turn it upside down you will have less control and more poll response flip it the other way less poll more control. Hope this helps. I love all my goostree bits! |

Location: Texas | One of my double gags came with a curb chain. I have a long shank goostree double gag and I took the chain off.
As far as lift goes, I like to go to an Ed Wright medium shank bit wit the unlocked mouth first. I also have a Pozzi Lifter and a Dave Elliott Spur Up 03 bit. The less gag= more lift. More gag= less lift. |

Can you or someone explain a locked or unlocked mouth? I have him in a camarillo chain bit right now...but when I ask for speed he needs a little more... but won't tolerate yanking...so I was hoping to find a lifter bit. I do have some ed wright 3pc bits but I have no idea if they are a locked or unlocked now? |

| Just to add, he works great slow work in a snaffle at home, but gets sorta stiff or hard mouthed on me when I ask to exhib at a show...he has a gas pedal, I just want to keep things going smoothly, but he does need some lift in his turns. |

Location: louisiana | I would think the locked bit would keep the mouth peice from sliding up an down like a gag bit does |
