Location: Texas | This is probably the best weekend my sister and I have ever had in our history of competing. ever.
We went to a jackpot on Saturday and met up with some of our closest barrel racing friends. There were 140 entered in the race, I ran one horse, my sister ran two, and then my friend and her little sister ran as well. When it was all said and done, I had the best run of my life on my mare Bunny and we won the barrel race by 4 tenths. My friends little sister smoked a run on her new horse Drew and won 2nd in the open- it was her first time to ever outrun her big sister, and I think second time to run in the open 1D. My sister won 1st and 2nd in the open 2D with the 5th and 6th fastest runs of the day. My friend had a little ground trouble but pulled a 2D check as well.
The next day my sister wanted to go to a race near home and I wanted to exhibition some babies so we drove to this jackpot. It was a smaller race with 68 entries, a 4D with sliding pay. Kallyn has historically had trouble with her horse in this arena and the mare's previous owner wasn't a fan of it on the mare either. Kallyn was determined to fix the mistakes she's been making and won the jackpot by 6 tenths on her mare Hope. There was one horse that was a tenth off her that hit a barrel, but otherwise it was her alone. Even with it being a small jackpot, she won the entire 1D so it was a big pay check.
I know weekends like this will probably never happen again, so I just wanted to share. This will be one to remember when we have those times when everyone hits a barrel or nothing goes right. We have been running barrels since 2002 and this kind of stuff has NEVER happened for us before.

Those weekends are why we do this crazy barrel racing thing! And I wouldn't say it will never happen again - you guys have such nice horses that it's very possible. Still, enjoy it cause that is an awesome two days! |

Is that the pen in Edna that everyone says is so nice?
Was the Sunday run at Crescent? That is not an easy pen to run in. |

Congratulations to you your sister and your horses. Wow. Is that the pen in Edna that everyone says is so nice? Was the Sunday run at Crescent? That is not an easy pen to run in.
Yes the first pen is the arena in Edna. It is a VERY nice pen. And yes, the second pen is Crescent. It's about 25 minutes from home. Not easy for a lefty. I always had trouble with it when I ran left. And the alley is kind of a pain. I heard they were going to redo the back of it and make the alley straight and not a 90 degree turn. |

I think I got pretty lucky finding this one! I don't know if I will ever find another one, but if I do, you will have to fight me over it!! Lol! |
