Β Any board buddies ever been on Lupron or currently on it? I've heard horrible things from it except from my surgeon and I trust him completely. He is having me try it for 30 days. He said if I can't tolerate the side effects that he will help me find something else but he said at some point a hysterectomy will be my only option. I'm just not ready to do that at 34 years old and he understands.

I've never heard of it. But if you are uncomfortable with it I'd just tell the Doc please lets find something with less side effects.

I have told my Dr. several times that I don't like some drug.... One of them I didn't take was taken off the market 3 months later because people were dropping like flies from the side effects.  Sorry i'm no more help.

I was put on Lupron a few years back to shrink fibroids.  The main side effect that I remember was terrible hot flashes.  I am normally very cold natured but these things were horrible.  I was put on it by my regular ob/gyn who basically told me I should go ahead and have a hysterectomy (I was 27).  I went to a specialist in Nashville for a second opinion who said that I should not have been put on Lupron because the fibroids would have been much easier to remove without it.  Not sure if fibroids are your issue but if so, you may want to have a second opinion just for peace of mind - I have never had a maternal instinct but I sure didn't want to give up that option at 27 years old.

My OB/GYNE said it was one of the most effective treatments for endometriosis... that they really don't do surgery anymore because the endometriosis just comes back, but this had proven effective.

I personally and trying a less aggressive treatment before going that route. (IUD

They are trying to treat endometriosis and keep it from doing more damage to my colon.  They want to do a hysterectomy now but I'm not ready for that.

One of my friends was on it for her endo and she said it worked wonders.  I too have endo but have been able to keep it under control with Norethindrone, which isprogesterin only, no estrogen. For some people the side effects of Lupron are unbearable so I have been lucky not to go that route.

The norethindrone has shrunk the endo down to where it is basically gone, I had surgery a couple of years ago and the dr. found only one small spot. I had discussed a hysterectomy with two different doctors but neither wanted to explore.
