I think an hour is a good time frame. It takes about 10 minutes to groom/tack up with an 8yo kid and about that long to untack/hose off. So they're only riding for about 40 minutes. I would think any less time than that wouldn't really be long enough to teach them much.

I think the riding time and tacking time should not be bundled together. Kids should be allowed to tack up seperately from their 1 hour of riding time, anything else seems like not enough time to learn anything. Around here lessons range from$25
(non-professional
) to $65
(pro
).

I usually plan 2 hours for my two nieces. This includes tack up time but doesnt include untacking. I make them brush very thoroughly and make sure they really care for him. I dont like putting a time limit on it. In MN common is $20-$30 per hour depending on experience.

At least an hour of riding time, and some extra time for the brushing and tacking up. I would charge 35.00 an hour

I charge $60 an hour, and most of my clients want to ride for 2 hours. Call other instructors in your area to determine the price per hour.

I charge $35 per private lesson and safety/grooming/groundwork is included in the hour long lesson until the kids can tack up on their own. Then they can show up early, tack up and have a small group lesson
(2-4 children
) for $25 per hour or the private lesson is still $35.
Costs in my area are anywhere from $15 per hour with a backyard taught teenager somewhere to $65 for a lesson with an olympian
(jumpers or dressage
) or some various big rodeo names. Lessons involving cattle are always between $60-$125 depending on what you are doing.

My daughter gave lessons during summer vacations a couple years ago. She did 2 hours for $30. We live a ways out of town and wanted to make sure the kids had ample time to groom, tack up, ride and unsaddle and groom and hose off. We have fields and prairie as far as the eye can see so she made it into a daily trail ride. Much more fun than riding in an arena.
My daughter had one student that always asked if her nanny could come an hour late so the little girl could help clean stalls....ahhhh YEA!

I charge $30 for 45 minutes. It usually goes over if they are still focused. That tends to be a good time limit for the kids I have worked with. Long enough that the parents feel like they're getting their money's worth but not so long that the kids check out of get bored.
