Location: NC | I just thought I would share some pictures from last week when we took the horses swimming. Not many places allow you to bring your horses to the beach around here. Very lucky we have this place as long as we clean up after the horses. The black horse is my moms horse(who was mine!), who is 18 and swam last summer. The palomino is my 6 year old and this is the 2nd time shes ever seen beach, never been in water. hoping to go again this week!
She had her halter on under a hackamore just in case (and please excuse the tan lines and diff colors!)

Location: Bastrop, Texas | It's a blast. It's especially fun if you get your horses to actually swim. it's an amazing sensation as you walk them out deeper and deeper, until they start to swim. You can tell exactly when they are really swimming, because you can feel them thrust with every kick. They really generate power. It's fun to teach them to swim too, and you can just tell they are gaining confidence. You start by just looping them around in an arc at the point where it gets too deep for them to walk. Gradually you make the arc longer and deeper. I have some that will just head straight out as soon as you get them in the water. You have to bring them around, or they will just keep swimming. We've spent entire days swimming in my lake here. It's also a good thing to do with younger colts....2-3 yr olds. Just another way of teaching them confidence, plus it is not at all stressful on joints. |

Southold, NY. Peconic bay between the forks of long island. The houses you see on the other side is shelter island. Thankfully out there is a gradual decline so you can work on getting out. We did get to the swimming but unfortunately since i was camera person i was the one who got everyone elses pics. It was a complete blast though

Thank you!! I always wanted to do this too! we have one other beach that will allow horses during off season but you have to have a group of 10+ people and you can never find that many people at once! |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | When I was a kid I used to swim my horses all the time, we kept the horses not to far from a lake and did so much swiming my dad called me tadpole for a long time. I would lay out across my horse and just let him do his thing. I kept a thin rope tied around my horses neck so I could hang on to it, so I could let them have their head while swiming. You look like you are having a blast, thanks for sharing pictures with us |
