7 year old gelding - Lunging on a hard surface to check for soundness. Does not seem to be "tracking up underneath" himself at a trot. Do you think this is an issue? Front or hind? He is lazy, so please forgive the kissing/ smooching. I felt like if I had him move on out, he would step underneath himself deeper. Just curious on opinions.

he felt a little frisky when I kicked gravel at him:

He is stepping shorter behind, and looks to be trotting out good. Is shorter on the right, agree to check stifles!

Does the stifle impair the ability to bring the hind foot to land deeper underneath himself? Like a tight, need to stretch feeling? I am learning, so just trying to figure out what and why the impairment. He's got a vet visit in his future regardless. And does he look too sore to keep riding him? My personal opinion is no.

Yes. The stifle swings the hind leg forward when it contracts, so if it hurts and he's not fully contracting it his leg won't come as deep. That's the nutshell version.

Have his hocks looked at as well. My boy was sore in both hocks and his left stifle and SI. We started with the hocks and 3 weeks later he checked sound all around. His stifle was sore from compensating for the hock. Since having them done his gaskins and whole hind end have put on a lot of muscle
