I am debating on ording a longer shanked bit for me leverage on my new gelding. Has anyone ever ran in Charmayne James bits line? I found one with the same exact mouth piece as mine however the length of the cheek is 9" which just seems very long to me. Any advice?

I use & compete in Charmayne's bits. I really like them! I have used the 9" ported bit & currently use the Chappy. Love all of her bits though.

And it doesnt seem to long? My new gelding seems to just lean on the bit alot and I am having to ride very agressivly which is not my style. Do the added leverage makes the horses head rise?

Do you mean a bit like this? The overall length is so long because the purchase
(the part from the mouth piece to where the headstall attaches
) is much longer than normal, creating more poll pressure when you pull back on the reins. The length of the shank from the mouth piece to where the reins attach isn't overly long, IMO. I would really like to try one of these out myself.

Okay, thank you! The derby bit which is only a 6" is what I currently use and I would like to try the James 9" bit for improved reactions. Think it will work?
