Hopefully this link will work. This video showed up on my news feed yesterday and I thought it was interesting. I would like to know what other trainers think about this method.

I don't use tires
(too cumbersome
), but I use cones. I use them as a visual for me, so I am consistent with placing my horse's feet and making sure I drive him up into the turn.

100 ways to skin a cat. I have seen others use the method, also using poles or cones.

I've used tires before, and after you have to lug those suckers to the side when the arena needs to be plowed, then set them back up, you get tired of it really quick. The ones I used were going to be thrown away from a used care dealership place and I always got grease and stuff all over me. They were free, but still. I like to use the big tall construction cones. And I'm not sure how it happens, but those suckers always jump in the bed of my pickup when I'm driving down the road. Crazy. I know.

Cones would be my vote. I wouldn't want my horse to stick a leg through a tire and trip or get hurt.

I picked up a bunch of used ATV tires for free at our local mechanic's shop. They're awesome for using for markers and the perfect size to stick a feed bucket in so NAUGHTY horses who PAW can't spill their feed!

I guess my main concern is the horse looks super bunched up going around the barrels. So I guess you'd only take them through like this a hand full of times and then take the tires away so they can stretch out a little better?

They're a good training aid if set up correctly. Just a pain in the butt to lug them all over the arena.

You don't have to place the tires exactly how that rider did. I set my cones to allow my horse to use his GOD given stride on a path thats easiest for him. Maybe that rider felt that's where that particular horse had to be.
