| I board. I had dirt floors. I tried adding shavings. Bad idea. I now have matts. If I have one that has to stay in for long period of time I put pelleted bedding on the matts (soaks up anything and the dry falls through the poop rake- worth it's weight in gold) and 1 bag normal fine shavings on top for comfort.
When I had just dirt/ sand I couldn't get the floors to dry fast enough or well enough. I would end up digging holes trying to get the wet out. |

| We have concrete floors with matts on top, 1 bag of soaked pelleted shavings and two bags of fine shavings. Mine are able to walk in and out as they please, so it ruins the shavings faster than usual. If they weren't able to walk in and out i would have probably 4-5 bags of fine shavings. But mine are dirty snobs who like to make my life hard |

Location: Where I am happiest | We have crushed rock, compacted and level then stall matts. It works perfectly! No shifting of the floor base, no holes or dips and plenty of drainage. |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | We're on concrete with mats on top with plenty of sawdust...one of huge pet peeves is a stall with not enough bedding.
At my parents we had hard packed floor with crushed rock and then mats. |

| I have concrete on the edges and clay (now hard and VERY compact, doesn't even seem like clay) in the middle with mats and then shavings. |

Location: Okla | Concrete screenings packed level and rubber mats. because it's screening and not pure concrete, drainage is very good, no holes or wet spots and mats don't shift. |

| Our barn is cement. I have mats that I can put in, but we dont use the Mats with cattle and often dont bother with the horses unless im building the box stalls too. Our big barn is open and the little barn has two big stalls.
We use straw for bedding.
My horses are rarely inside though. Only if they were worle hard or are going to foal, a d if foaling the mare gets the whole big barn. Never had a problem.
We are in the planing phase of building a new barn, its going over the chute but will havehorse tie stalls thoes will havee mats for sure since only shawed working horses will be in there. |
