How does that happen? Fat boy blew out his back girth last weekend. Thankfully, it fell apart in the alley after the run. I can totally see a back leg getting hung in a loose girth.

Thats why I use a keeper on tie downs if I am needing one on a horse that I'm riding..

OMG!!! That video has to many examples of how NOT to ride a horse period. Lets take an unbroken 7 year old, put the saddle on to far forward, ride him in field with other horses, put a long shank bit in its mouth with a tie down on and lets see if the tie down keeps him from rearing............. People really can be that stupid

and after all of that...lets post it on youtube

I don't have any videos but one of my BIGGEST pet peeves involving horses is when I see someone using a tie down WITHOUT a breast collar and the strap properly ran through a ring or the behind the breast collar. Then to top of it of, those are usually the people that have the tie down strap adjusted WAY to long to do any good to start with. That is just an accident waiting to happen. I have no issue with a tie down that is properly adjusted and secured, but I won't even watch people ride that does the other.

In the description it said her 4-h adviser gave her the unbroken horse to train for her 4-h project... I wouldn't let her touch anything of mine with a 20ft pole. That horse is probably a mess by now and labeled as crazy because he was started by a dumb kid who didn't know what she was doing.

She's lucky he didn't flip over the second he felt the restriction of that tie down! I don't like tie downs, heard of too many accidents with them but to each their own.
Also if she's doing this for 4H, where is her helmet???

The one I'm thinking of was Twila Haller's Cuidell horse stumbling and getting his leg through the reins.  Scary wreck--he looked like he was going to flip and she jumped off and finally got him calmed down enough for someone to cut him loose.

I heard about someone having their tie down clipped back to the noseband, horse got a leg through it and broke his neck. Another girl in one if the western states got her foot hung in the tiedown, horse spooked, dragged her and she died.  Moral of the story is try to follow safe practices and don't assume it won't happen to you.
