How do you teach this style of turning to your horse? I understand the concept of the tear drop which is straighter longer & you have more space on the backside of the barrel to make your turn than the sides. But how do you go about teaching your horse to turn this way? Do you keep them going straight, past the barrel and then just turn them behind the barrel and come straight out?

Just curious! :)

I have always thought 4-6ft pocket, go by the barrel and kind of turn behind it so that you are straight when you come out. I try to give my horses this basic teaching about turning a barrel and let them kind of form their own variation. I feel like this is the most common way to teach it.

I would contact Lynn Mckenzie about it. She has a website, don't know about Facebook since I don't do that. She is a great lady.
