Someone (or several someones) is going around opening horse pens and letting horses loose in our area.  Last week two horses were running down the four-lane and 1 got hit and died. A cousin just posted on FB that someone opened her gate and let her horses out last night.  She lives about 1/2 -3/4 of mile from 4-lane.  It was rumored that someone had let the horses out when the one got hit.

My horses gates are padlocked, I don't live near a 4 lane, but this is terribly scary!!  I really hope they catch the rotten, no good, SOBs.

That is terrible and so senseless.   I would get a bunch of big dogs to keep people off my property and get one of those I shoot to kill signs.

That is just awful. What area are you in?? Where is this happening?
I'll be praying for the people who lost their horses.

I would be keeping my gates locked/with a padlock. Are they opening pasture gates? All the cattle and horse owners should be locking up pasture gates.

It is in SE Iowa.  I have my front gate padlocked, and the back gate looks like Ft. Knox with a chain, a clip and it's one of those fancy lift latch deals, but it is 200 yds off the road behind the barn.
They don't seem to be releasing cattle.

We had the very same thing happen two summers ago! Someone was turning out horses and cattle during the night. Our neigbors had all their horses turned out and with tall corn fields and some were ponies, it was a challenge to find them! I'm in the northwest part of Iowa.......sounds like they've moved to the southern part of the state!
I too padlocked the gates and walk gates for the horses and the feedlot, pastures......

Wonderful world we live in. If they are caught they will probably do nothing to them.

Oh my gosh that is terrifying! I'd be out there freaking patrolling with a machete, my pistol, and a few guard dogs.
