I have IceHorse "knee to ankle" boots. They come with twelve inserts (6 per leg). They do an EXCELLENT job of cooling the leg and work on both my 15.1 gelding (bit higher than the knee on him) and my 16.3 gelding (they fit him PERFECTLY.

Convenient? Meh.... They are kind of a PITA to get on if you are alone. Once the inserts are in them they are REALLY heavy and the boot itself doesn't have any rigid support. You kind of have to hold the top with one hand, hold them together with your knee while you velcro them shut, and then once you've done it, you have to pull it back up and go back and refasten all the straps so that they are tight enough. Also, the strap that comes with them to go over the back and help hold the boots up - is a fail. It is just velcro, and it rips off almost instantly. Lol. I am going to have a friend of mine sew some actual like connectors so that the strap won't come off. Maybe that will solve my problems? Maybe I just struggle? Lol

Affordable? I think they were $150-$200 from SmartPak.com I got them with a coupon and I can't remember exactly how much.

Go to ebay and search EB ICE. I got one when doc did knee surgery. It is just like the ICE HORSE ice chest thing but way cheaper. Make sure it has the cuff. I will try to find a link for you.

You put ice and water in the ice chest and it pumps the water through the cuff.

Another thought--CHEAP Easy to put on.

I wet several feminine and put them in the freezer. I always have some frozen. I put them where I need the cold and put on a sports boot. Like on the leg I put one on each side. I have some really bulky sports boots that I don't really like and they work perfectly. I buy the Kroger brand feminine pads cause they are cheap. They give about 20 minutes of really cold. Can't get much cheaper.

My next door neighbor will not eat anything that comes from my house because of my pads in the freezer!!!!

THAT is a really good idea. I have some puppy pads that I don't use. I have been saving those for if a horse gets a cut or whatever on the leg, but I wonder if you wet those and freeze them if that would work also?
