| i have a gelding ive had for almost 3 years that is a AWESOME guy. when i fist bought him we were running consistent 1d. well as the years went buy i stopped running as much well i started back and he started pulling off his 2nd and 3rd barrel. well NOTHING i did fixed it. had him vetted etc nothing was wrong. so i figured "okay he needs a break" so i gave him a year off. a WHOLE year. no riding at all. and i brought him back and we were back consistent in the 1d again. well i gave him about 2 and half maybe 3 months off. and just brought him back not to long ago nice and slow. well it rain for like a week and half so i didnt ride him, just tied him around in his stall every other day for a couple minutes to keep him soft. well i take him to a local jackpot that we go to every now and then and we would even walk to the arena from the trailer, he would spin, lung, try and bolt. well, when i finally got him to the hold pen to warm up, he tried to buck me off. HE HAS NEVER DONE EITHER ONE OF THOSE THINGS. well, okay i work him and he seems fine, well i run him and he runs me uo the fence.. never done this before. it wasnt like we were running to the first barrel and he didnt turn at all, we turn the first barrel and were in the middle of the back side and he just stops and turns left and runs me up the fence. he isnt hurting anywhere, i have him vetted normally and chiro. any one have any ideas what could be wrong? any tips i could use to maybe fix this so it doesnt happen again? i dont want this to become a habit. |

Location: OK | My first guess is that the vet missed something. Either he was or is hurt somewhere. When they vetted, how far did they go? |

| I had a gelding start doing this and he had a injury to his ankle. I agree seems like vet missed something. This sounds like a pain issue |

Location: Deep South | What kind of vet did you take him to? What all did the vet do during the vet check?
This is 100% a sign of a horse in pain. 1D horses do not just start acting like blown up idiots unless something is wrong. |

Location: Texas | My horse did the whole up the fence things in various forms. Lol. Sometimes start to turn then say nah. Other times just right up fence. Vets said he was fine till we xrayed his back and viola he had "kissing spines". Did all kind of treatments to keep from surgery but ultimately he had surgery and is now back 110%. I'm with the others , your vet missed something. Good honest horses don't just come untrained |

| If he's better after long stretches off my thoughts are ulcers or breathing problems when running (restricted breathing when running can make it very scary and they turn into IDIOTS). That's what I think of other than the average "body pain somewhere" |

| I say hocks, stifles. I had several vets miss fusing hocks. Find the best lamness vet and take him back. |

| I guess I should add September of last year my solid mare started running up the fence at 1st and if she did turn it she blew the backside. Found a spur in her left stifle this year after pulling my hair out, injecting hocks and giving time off. Vet said that could absolutely be the reason because she has to use the outside hind to take off to the 2nd and she started bowing, then blowing it, then running off. She just got tired of trying and hurting. |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | I would have his back x-rayed to check for kissing spine. Even if he doesn't palpate sore on his back, just have it x rayed anyway to be 100% sure. That sounds like what my horse was doing too, and he had kissing spine. Surgery fixed it though. |
