How well an extruded horse feed works in a horse goes back to the same base issues with any feed. What is in it, what quality, what is the rest of the diet and how much are your feeding? The process itself alters the starch to some degree. While this might be a benefit if you really want to feed a product that has a lot of corn in it, there are a few potential negatives. Cooking a feed to this degree may denature certain nutrients in the product depending on how hot it is processed and for how long. Some products use parboiled rice bran and then extrude it. I believe that the nutritional profile of that ingredient is greatly altered compared to food grade Stabilized Rice Bran, particularly the vitamin E levels. In the end, I feel that they are safe, in general, but limited in added value unless feeding corn is important to you.
