In looking for the perfect cross for my mare a lot of the stallions I am liking for her are in the 14.3- 15 h range and she is just under 16h. I want to add some quickness to her and love the turn in the little reiner I have now thinking crossing her on a reiner might make a nice cross but I don't want to end up with a mess lol. She's a tall racey looking mare with old running blood would crossing her with a short stocky reiner type be a bad idea? Should I look for something more similar in body type? Tall or short I don't care just want to have the best chance at a nice balanced foal.

As far as the bloodlines mixing well - do some online research and see what similar crosses have netted.

As far as size - you never know what you're going to get.  I bred my 14.2 stallion to my 15.3 mare and got 15.2 mare.  Same stallion to a 14.3 mare got a 15.2 gelding.  Same stallion with a 15.0 mare and got a 14.2 mare.

I haven't found anything bred like her at all. Her lines are old and NW bred and I haven't seen many horse with lines these days. Just breeding for a nice colt for myself.

Her sire is a son of Justa lil quincy AQHA Champion, performance ROM with points in Heading, Heeling and Western Pleasure. He has three AAA paternal half brothers nd two AQHA Superior Race horses. out of Tuff Lovely daughter (SI 94 AAA ). Her dam is double bred Shubreeze a AAA son of Breeze Bar and also has Bows Wrangler a AAA son of Rocket Wrangler out of a AAA mare on her papers.

As long as you stay with good conformation and similar body type as a guideline for choosing the stallion, difference in size isn't a big concern. But like Lonely said, it's kind of a crapshoot what you will get.  It also depends on the way you feed the foal. I have raised large foals o/o moderate to small mares just by making sure the baby got enough and the right things to eat in the months they grow the most.

Some crosses will have an anomaly sometimes too. I have a mare with 4 full siblings. The mare is 14.2 hands.
Stallion is 15.1 but regularly sires horses that are taller than he is.   Two of the foals are about 14.3-15 hands. One was 14.2 as a 13 month old gelding and the other is 15.1 as a 4 year old. The anomaly is the 14.2 yearling. I don't know how tall he will get but I think he will be the largest from that cross.  He's still a yearling.

I bred two foals that were full sisters - sire was 14.2, dam was 14.3.  The older sister matured at 15.1 hands - the younger maybe reached 14.1...the difference?  The older I sold as a yearling - the younger as a weanling...so the older had almost a full year longer on the 16% feed I was feeding at the time.

Funny anecdote - my friend bred her 16.2 hand mare to that same 14.2 stallion without any issues...other than they had to dig a trench to stand the mare in lolol.

I bred my 16.1 hand appendix mare to a 14.1 hand old foundation stud and I got this, and this was her first foal too.  He's all of 15.3 hands tall:

I bred a 16.1 hand racier mare to a 14.2 cow/race cross stud. Baby is taking momma's height and daddy's hip. Lol she's pretty awesome I think :)

I tried to add a pic, but my iPhone isn't as smart as it thinks it is :(
