I have an old saddle that is a bit too tight for my horse in the shoulders and pinches him. I quit riding with it last year and bought a new, different brand saddle. The new saddle fits him great, but I am having a heck of a time riding in it. The stirrups are very free swinging, I can't set my feet and my feet go behind me when he turns. Not pretty. I have tried lots of other saddles, and they just don't work for me.

Here's my question:
Can the CorrecTor Pad Help With A Saddle That Is Too Narrow and Pinching A Horse's Shoulders?
I know it has shims at the shoulders but I am confused as to whether or not putting shims under the tight part of my old saddle with make it pinch more, or cushion it from digging in?
Any thoughts?

In my opinion, no. Putting more padding under a too tight saddle will not make it better.

If it is actually too wide and pinching by sitting down too far on his back, then yes perhaps. But if it is truly too narrow then no, it will only make things worse. For the price of the CorrecTor you're well on your way to a good used saddle that fits.

The thicker the pad the tighter the saddle will get.

I was told by a great saddle fitter that it was like putting on an extra pair of socks and then putting on shoes that were already too tight. Makes sense. I am also learning that there is very very little you can do to try and make an ill fitting saddle, fit. Just not going to happen.

Thanks for the replies.
That's what my logical mind said, but I have read so many different things about saddle fit in the last few days that my head is spinning. LOL

I am waiting on one I ordered and all my saddles seem to be too tight right behind the shoulder, in the typical white spot area. I am going to shim BEHIND, which is supposed to help lift the saddle off that bad spot. I have never done it, and it is just something to do until my other saddle comes as this particular horse will a get a little humpy when the saddle pinches.

Nope. No matter what, if the saddle is too tight NOTHING will make it fit. Think about it this way, if your shoes are a size too small, no matter what socks you're wearing, the shoes will still be too small and will hurt.

If your new saddle the problem is the swing of the stirrups just hobble the stirrups forward
