Recently got a gelding who is very narrow compared to my previous very "voluptuous" mare, who was a brick house...he's not a twig by any means, just has more withers & less padding then she did :)

That being said, my saddle definitely does not fit him...no matter how tight you make it/how thick the pad is, when you pull yourself up it'll wiggle all over the place, & it doesn't stay "balanced" so to speak while I ride...have to balance it myself and hold it on top of him. Did a saddle fit test & it was too big.

So what're some good, study saddles that are available with SQHB that won't break the bank?
I liked Corrientes, but they only sell FQHB. :( My current saddle is a Courts Sharon Camarillo, I really like it but it's just too big for him. Would rather but used than new but good used saddles are few and far between around here it seems?

The Circle Y saddles that have a serial number ending in 04 are usually narrow depending on the model of the saddle.   I see a lot of them for sale used, especially on e-bay or tacktrader.

Contact Meleta Brown. I will be trying one out for my Thouroughbred built gelding.

I find Shiloh ed Wright, contenders and a Cecil Phillips tree fir good for narrower horses. I would not hesitate to contact Meleta Brown about her freedom saddle. Also just because a horse is not as bulky and has more withers not always needs a semi bar saddle.

Ditto!  A TG Caldwell should fit nicely.  You might be able to find a used Caldwell.

A TG Caldwell I bet would be a good fit or a Martha Josey..
