| what do you do with your hands to cue your horse to turn during a run? I'm seeing people pull around, I'm seeing people cross over the horses neck, I'm seeing people lay their hand on the horses neck, I'm seeing people putting their hand out over top of the barrel. What do you do? |

Location: Kansas | I cue by sitting my butt down to rate, then I turn my head and look around. Looking around changes my hip weight and opens my ribs thus allowing the horse to turn nice and rounded. I tend to lead one lightly, with my reins around and out of the turn. |

Location: Somewhere around here | With me it depends. My free running horse I have to sit earlier because he has a hard time rating, check him once two strides before the barrel, go to horn, then my hand goes to his neck then depending on how he finishes the turn I'll have my hand out over the barrel a little or a lot lol. My husbands horse, which is really ratey and looking to be the complete opposite of my other horse, I just sit down a stride before the barrel and tap the rein, staying my his neck. It's awesome!!! |

Having your hand down is going to pull their shoulder down. Crossing your hand over the neck is just a no-no. I keep my hands up, near the neck but not on it or too far out. My sister struggles with her hands. I put rubber bands in her horse's mane to help guide her. |

My streakin six mare I run two handed and drop my inside hand to her neck and finish the backside with my outside.
My jackie bee mare I run one handed turning the first and switching to my other hand after. Shes my profile pic and u can see how my hands are there.
My Dirty venture mare you gotta lift with ur inside hand. Shes wickedly hard to ride. You gotta stay two handed and quiet between barrels.
My bs paint mare you just turn one handed.
My buckskin hasnt quite showed me how she prefers to turn yet so we r playing around with it. Lol. |
