Location: MN | What do you all use to help stiffen a horse up a bit? My daughter's horse is very bendy...many times too bendy in her turns. It seems to slow her momentum down quite a bit. Right now she's using a lifesaver mouth with very slight gag...very similar to a Tender Touch. Just wanting to try something different. |

Location: NC | my mare is very bendy as well, she seems to be running really well in a sweet 6 with a noseband (sweet 6 combo bit) i had her in a jr cow horse bit but it made her bendy-ness worse. at home riding and slow work we use a sweet 6 with german martingale. |

| I use a Jim Warner hack on my overly bendy guy. |

My mare works really good in a twisted wire mouth piece, but i tried her in the smooth mouth one and she was great in that as well. Was very hard for me to find the smooth mouth one which is why i ended up with the twisted.. (was my trainers bit that was smooth and i wanted to get my own)
Shes also not really great in a hackamore so the bit combo works for her

| a hack or a bit like the million dollar bit will stiffen them up.... like the noseband and shank one. I have one similiar to it that has a noseband and shanks but the mouthpeice is locked in place... twisted wire with an 8 in middle not a dogbone... Use it on my horse that is too bendy and very light mouthed, she ran in a tender touch too.. Anything with a noseband will make them stiffer and mullen mouth ones are good for this too.. The more sliding action a bit has will usually = more bend. Locked gag like this will help regardless of mouthpiece.. mine is like this it looks like alot but it works on all 5 of our horses, all totally different... and an o ring with a noseband would stiffen her up too

Location: Pacific Northwest | My mare was like that when I first started running her. Instead of changing her head gear I just taught her to not be so bendy. I worked with making her stay straight and square, and never asked her to flex around the barrels I would trot her straight past, stop, pivot, walk forward, stop, pivot, etc. Now when we make a run I concentrate on keeping her head straight until we have to turn. She went from clocking in the 4D with her previous owner to consistently in the 2D, occasionally in the 1D (she'd be better with a better rider lol). She's in the same bit her previous owner used. She still has a LOT of natural flex, but now she keeps herself a lot straighter and has more power in her turns. |

Location: Where I am happiest | A hackamore will take some of the bend out. Any gag's, or multiple piece mouthpiece is going to add bend. Most one piece mouth pieces will also take some bend out. |
