I'm looking at a gelding, the owner has been very honest with me and said he has a hernia about an inch in size in front of his sheath. She said there is a small hole about 1/2" or 3/4" in size, I'm assuming it hasn't closed? It doesn't shy me away from the sale, but would it hurt his performance career?

I personally would not run him until it was repaired... I have had great luck with small hernia's with my home remedy, (must be small and younger than 3 for my home remedy to work) but any thing larger than 1 inch I would have sewn up by my vet.

Hummm I wonder why they just didnt get it fixed as he got older, I would take him to your vet and see what their thoughts would be about it. Its not big enought for me to worry about but I would have it checked anyways.
