EPM Relapse – how did you deal with it?

My mare was diagnosed with EPM in late April. None of the classic neuro signs, but having problems picking up feed crumbles and a very poor top line. We also noticed some changes in her spine, but at the time hoped that the EPM was causing her performance issues. I treated with Oroquin 10, the re-test came back fine, and Luna gained all her weight back and looked really well. I started longing her and that went great too. I finally sat on her again a week ago and just walked around for a few minutes, the next day she started kicking at the saddle again like she did earlier in the year. Sat on her a couple more times and then she didn’t want to trot. Also I noticed the same issues with picking up feed crumbles again. Long story short…. The EPM test is a high positive again.
This time we will treat with NeuroQuel
(Levamisole
)… I’m assuming just sitting on her for a few minutes caused her back to hurt and the stress caused the re-lapse. Obviously we need to address the back and I have already been in touch with Dr. Honnas.
However, this moment getting the EPM nipped in the butt once and for all is my priority. Any experiences, would be greatly appreciated.

Injecting a horse with EPM will exacerbate the problem. My horse has been treated 4 times. Now when he is injected the vet determines if he needs another round of meds or not. He has a very subtle case and is really hard to identify the symptoms. Sitting on a horse should not make the body sore. Either the horse still has some EPM symptoms or there is another soreness problem going on.

Do you have him on a immune builder?

The horse has always been on THE Daily Edge and the last month on THE Nitric Oxide and Nutrawound.
I'm open to suggestions for other immune builders as well.
