Veteran Posts: 165	I am looking to buy a 3 yr old gelding that is Dash for Cash on the bottom and a bunch of Cow breeding on the other side, Colonel Freckles, Smart Little Lena, Mr San Peppy... I want versatility as I like to cattle pen and we own a cattle ranch as well. The current owner says he probably won't finish more than 14'2 or 3. My husband says he thinks I need something bigger to run barrels on, but this little guy is kind of pulling at my heartstrings. I know there are a lot of short horses out there that are doing very well barrel racing, (Baby Flo) Opinions? When I buy a horse I tend to keep it for life, so want to make the right decision.

It seems people have more of issue with height as far as resale, if you're planning on keeping for life I wouldn't worry about it. I personally LOVE shorties.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 495 Location: Washington	My cutting bred gelding is 14, if he hasn't been trimmed recently. He runs the same indoor or outdoor, rodeo or jackpot ground. It's the size of the heart not the horse. There is another local that's won $50K+ PRCA and she's not more then 14 hands

Tried and True Posts: 21185 Location: Where I am happiest	My daughter is running 2 horses. One is all cow bred and 14.2 on a tall day. The other is 15.2 and all race/barrel bred. That little cow horse kicks the bigger speed bred horse's hiney every single trip! He's clocking a good 1/2 second off of her. I'd also like to add, over the years, we have had FAR less soundness issues with the smaller horses vs the big horses.

Location: not settling	Personally I LOVE my little guys! I honestly think shorter horses get (no pun intended) sold short. Little horses can be quick and catty, just ask my hubby, his heel horses make cool little barrel horses
