I know there are other posts like this, but was hoping to make one that is less technical.. ... I realize that each situation or cross is different so none of this will be *concrete* but was hoping to see if anyone has any *generals* or personal experience for the studs that are popular right now... Such as "wont cross well on a lazy mare" or "crosses best on a stiff/ bendy/ rollback/ push style etc. mare" or mare needs to bring alot of "turn" or have alot of "run" to compensate for what stud lacks...or any other common height/ disposition / confirmation results.. I dont mean like the bloodline magic crosses.. just general things you have noticed.. For instance, to me it looks like a streak of fling produces best when crossed with a real "turny" mare or bloodline with alot of turn.. whereas blazinjetolena on a real bendy mare might result in a colt that is super bendy... Or i have heard that JL Dash Ta Heavens tend to be fine boned so would do best with a bigger boned mare....Just giving examples :) Any input is welcome

I think you have to see a stud to really know. Pictures are usually fixed up it seems. I love Dashing Bye and would own a daughter in a New York minute, but I have heard he has an ugly head. I usually really want pretty heads, but if I found a daughter that had a nice head, heck yeah! Wouldn't breed mama roman nose to him though lol

I doubt anyone will come on here and say anything about conformation flaws of popular studs or they will get flamed straight to hell. Even when it is true...
But if you want a tall horse, don't breed a tall mare to a short stud and be disappointed when you get an inch taller than the stud. Bloodlines will usually let you take a good guess on what will produce speed or rate. Look at what Myers are breeding to FG and getting the most winners and money out of. Super nice race mares.

Yellow and Blue doesn't always mean green in horses. When you breed a short mare to a tall stud you could still get a short foal.

I've raised 2 Dashin Byes, and they definitely have a distinctive head. I wouldn't necessarily call it ugly, but it sure won't win you a halter class! Letta Hank Do It also has a pretty distinctive head, and I've got a daughter that got it! However, she has a full sister with a very pretty head.

"Distinctive head" LOL not laughing at you, but it reminded me of Reminic. I just couldn't get over how homely that dude's head was. The vet tech was maybe his biggest fan and said he got that ugly bump on his nose by banging it on the stall. Well I never saw him bang it, he was outside a lot as it made him happiest so we saw him all the time...and his babies must have banged their noses a lot too hahaha.

I do love Dashin Bye though! Just never see them for sale much.

I probably just don't think my Dashin Byes heads looked that bad because my LHDI mare has a REALLY plain head! Poor girl is so far from feminine! And she's stalled next to my Dashin Bye filly so I guess she's the prettier of the plain heads!

Edited to add - When I get on the computer I'll attach a picture of my Dashin Bye colt and filly.

I will probably get flamed for this, but i think the mare is at least 65/75% of the picture. Some maybe lesss.

No flaming but I think it all depends on the mare and the stallion. Some stallions you could pick their babies out of a field left and right, same with mares. That is a good producer if they stamp their babies...as long as what they stamp is what you desire. I can see a dozen palominos and can usually pick which are Frenchman's Guy's vs Fire Water Flit etc.
