| We live in a causal generation. It would be interesting to determine how many days on the calendar are dedicated to the recognition of causes. Peace poverty , hunger education, and climate control are just a few tat top the lists of today's most popular causes. There are lots of good causes to which we can give our energy, influence, and resources.
The writer of Proverbs does not single out causes that we are to commit to God; rather, we are to commit ourselves to Him. We are known by our deeds, attitudes, and actions that make up our character. This is not about speaking up for single issues causes, but it is about living a life filled with character that reflects glory to God and Honor to Christ.
Proverbs 20:11-21 Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he doe3s is pure and right. The hearing ear and the seeing eye, The Lord has made them both. But not love sleep, lest you come to poverty and Open your eyes and you will be satisfied with bread. It is good for nothing ,cries the buyer But when he has gone his way, then he boasts. There is gold and a multitude of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel. Take the garment of one who is surety for a stranger, and hold it as a pledge when it is for seductress. Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with grave. Plans are established by counsel; by wise counsel wage war. He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips. Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness. As inheritance gained hastily at the beginning Will not be blessed at the end.
Observe all the things that the writer mentions; work ethic, honesty, planning, truth telling, caring for parents. All of these can come under umbrella of character. What God desires is that we commit the totality of our lives to Him. He knows that if we are people of character we are going to Honor Him and make a positive impact on those around us.
Looking for a cause to get excited about? Commit your life and your character to Him. Search for wisdom in His Word and from His Spirit. Think about living your life today in such a way that honors Him in all you do. The hearing ear, the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both. Commit all your ways unto Hm.
