| Ok - i love horse shopping but when do you quit second guessing your self? I found a horse i really like but then all the "opinions" come in. Too expensive, not proven, weird this and that....Do you just go with your gut? Not sure my gut is telling me what i want anymore. what do folks do as a checklist? |

| I have never gone wrong going with my gut. Every horse is going to have something that someone doesn't like. But if you like the horse, can work with or around the issues, and said horse works for you...Who cares what anyone else thinks? You're footing the bill, so they shouldn't have a say. Now if they tell you something dangerous about the horse, I'd find out about it before hand. |

Location: In a happy place | I second this. Also I think following your gut is a pretty good idea. I bought a colt (which I probably needed an older horse) back this spring on my gut feeling only. Bought him sight unseen and just looked at the videos. This turned out to be a really good buy. |

| I don't ask for peoples opinions because someone will always try to talk you out of it. I know what I like. If I like it and feel positive about it, I'll buy it. |

| Though I agree with trusting my gut...i also know i can be blinded to some warning signs. I also want to know if the seller is "trustworthy" since i am going out of state.... |

Location: Montana | Going with your gut is a good thing. I've not ever bought a horse out of state, but I think you have to go on your gut instinct on the people too. Depending on the cost of the horse, it doesn't hurt to do a little checking, but usually I get a pretty good feel for people in a short period of time just like you do with a horse. Good luck, and have fun! |

LOL In all seriousness, if you like the horse and feel like it would be a good fit, then that is all that matters. It's your money and your decision. Ask 10 different people and you'll probably get 10 different answers, so at the end of the day, do what YOU want to do and get the horse you think you will most enjoy. :) |

I generally dont share my horse purchases with very many people until its all said and done and the horse is standing in my backyard. It's a matter of what you want and what you're willing to 'deal with' and or work with in your purchase, and most of all if it makes you happy and you're truly going to enjoy it.

| If you go to bed at night feeling sick about it then I wouldn't do it Don't impulse buy the first time you ride the horse and you think it's the best horse ever...try it a few times, make a run or 2 before making a decision to go on with a vet check. |

| I am very indecisive... luckily i have my hubby that is my rock and his friend that is a trainer... this trainer has pointed me at two horses so far and both have been iffy (to me) when i first get them but within a month we are completely clicking and i'm in love!!
I guess get someone that knows you and how you ride that can help you make this decision! Both of my horses i wouldn't of picked cuz i thought one was too short and other too tall and both ugly... and now i love both of my gals! |
