Location: Oklahoma | I recently acquired a 3 year old who is a grandson of Grays Starlight on the sires side. Bottom side is nothing I recognized, but goes back to Peppy San Badger (on papers). Has anyone had experience with horses bred like this? I'm especially interested to hear about Grays Starlight hroses as barrel horses since I don't know anyone who has one. |

Location: So. Cali. | I know of three local ones. A good friend of mine is seasoning a grandson. He's catching on quick. Little guy but catty. Another friend has a gorgeous cutting reject that is Grays Starlight bred, not sure where on the pedigree exactly GS is, but he's an awesome little horse. Starting to get the hang of the barrels as well. And the last one was a grand daughter a friend of mine had. Also quick and catty. She's the only one I may consider a little on the hot side. But if you like catty little cow style horses, its a nice line for that  |

| Grays Starlight is Peppy San Badger bred himself...if I'm not mistaken. So if he's also PSB on the bottom then he's double PSB bred, right? I have a PSB bred gelding that I've been running for years and am just retiring him. I'm going to miss him so much...easy to get a long with and so much heart and try...super agile. I've heard PSB horses tend to be buckers but my guy didn't get that tendency. |

Location: Oklahoma | Yes, my colt is double bred PSB. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.....I thought it was neat that he had PSB up so close on both sides. He's a pretty neat little guy. |

Also Docs Starlight was a great producer herself. The cross of PSB and Docs Starlight produced Paddys Irish Whiskey, Grays Starlight, Badgers starlight and Gallo Del Cielo.
Grays Starlight and Paddys Irish Whiskey lines are being used extensively by many breeders now for barrel horses. ( Frenchmans Quarter Horses for example)

I never realized that. There was an AQHA registered stallion by the name of Little Peppy and lots of Little Peppy this and that's....so excuse my confusion on that one. I'd never heard him referred to by that name. You learn something everyday. |

He not only scared me but two very tough cowboys. But I had not heard of the Grays Starlights being like that. It is my understanding they are really nice horses. |

"Little Peppy" actually came from the guys at King ranch I believe.
Since he and Peppy San both were on location.
I was able to visit there as a kid and get to pet them both ( highlight of a horse crazy girls life. LOL) The ranch hands called them Peppy and Little Peppy. |

| I have a 3yo mare out of Shady Lil Starlight. She is the most athletic quick footed horse I have ridden, high loping the pattern after a few weeks! I'm super excited about her. |

That is interesting. I have not seen that in PIW. We have a five year old mare by Paddys Irish Whiskey out of a full sister to Dinero and Bozo. She is great to be around and wouldn't buck if she had to. Nice mare. |

This one was a dirty ba$_____. Then I had a friend that took four to break for a lady and all of them would buck like a son of a gun. Sure made me swear off of them.
I'm sure that there are a lot of good ones but I am scared to try another one at my age now.
And on top of mine bucking he would dern sure run off.

Had a friend have this exact problem with two Grays Starlight geldings. Buckers out of the blue and then just flat take off. Nothing you could pinpoint would set them off :( |

I had a Paddys Irish Whiskey daughter and if you did not lope that son of a gun at LEAST an hour EVERY DAY NO EXCEPTIONS she would pitch any and everyone into the dirt, and would carry on for about 5 min before she'd quit, rider or not. Id never ride another one. They are BRONCY. Sweet as pie on the ground though. |
