Are they serious?? Kids now a days can hardly play cowboys and indians or cops and robbers anymore, but they can bring a knife to school, because of their religion??? Wow.... is all I can say....

I love the statement that IF there are any problems, we will talk to the parents....isn't that kind of like closing the barn door AFTER the horse has escaped.........And why is his "personal religious freedoms" being excused when others are not? If I was a parent and had a child in that school the sh*t would hit the fan..........

I teach in a high school where we have two students who are given the same rights. It is part of their religion, and they are not allowed to brandish or show the knives, just carry them. We are absolutely OK with it here. For the same reasons people get on here and preach because of religious freedom, they get to express their religion as well. Fair is fair. Always amazes me how some express their religious beliefs all over the place but others are not allowed.

Well I wonder how many is going to change their religion so they get to carry a knife.. I know it wont happen just being a smarty pants here . But really I would not let my child carry a knife to school and I sure as heck dont want any body else's kid taking one to school either oh I would be really mad as he** too over that.

And this is what I have a problem with!
Prayers said before races are being questioned, some schools are not doing a morning prayer anymore because it offends kids from other religions. Yet this has to be accepted?
I am sorry, even it if it a religious knife, it is still a knife! And even if the kid wearing it will know not to use it, what if some other kid gets a hold of it and goes berserk???
There is huge double standard here. And I am afraid it will only get worse.....

ETA, I am not a religious person at all. Just don't like how some religions can get away with anything, while the biggest religion in the USA is being pushed in a corner....

People need to be able to be people again and live and believe what they believe without the PC police telling them what they can do and can't do. I miss the old America.

Boy, so do I..... When I went to high school all the guys carried a folding pocket knife of some kind. And the guys that drove to school either had some sort of muscle car or a truck.... And hanging in the back window of the trucks were some sort of long rifle or shotgun.. Guess what? Nobody EVER walked onto a school grounds and started shooting things up. They would not have lasted long if they had.

We have a separation of Church and state in this country. You have the freedom to practice any religion you wish, but this country does not have an official state sponsored religion, and should't have one. This boy is an individual, our two boys are individuals. If you want to pray individually or in a group fine, they carry the knives as part of their religion. However, we should NOT have religions, preaching, praying over loud speakers to an entire student body. If you want your child to participate in such activities, or have the 10 commandments poster on a wall or in front of the school, send them to private parochial schools that are not funded by the federal government.

Exactly how I grew up and it makes me sad that our grandson will never grow up in a free America.

What happened to cultural sensitivity?  What's good for the goose is good for the gander, so rednecks unite!  Demand your children once again be allowed to carry dull pocket knives in their pants and rifle racks in their 4 wheel drives.  And if they refuse, accuse them of ethnocentricity, discrimination and hatefulness. That should suitably intimidate their PC loving selves to give in to your demands.   After all, you only need to promise to leave knives in pockets and rifles in the truck and it's all good.
