Location: Australia | So this is the little mare that put me in hospital after a disagreement with spurs a few weeks ago. Without spurs she was the quietest sweetest mare youd find, just a little slow when it came to roll backs and things I had begun working on... I really didn't have an doubts that she'd be okay with spurs, she was just that quiet, but being young she didn't like them much and I ate dirt and it didn't end so good, I have a fractured L2...
Anyhow, yesterday my good friend came out and rode her for me NO SPURS, neither of us knowing what to expect... But she was her usual brilliant self again, soft and responsive, even more so than before! I was so happy as I had been in tears and losing sleep trying to decide if I should sell her or not, I'm not too proud to admit I will be a little scared when I get back on! But after yesterday I had hope!
Then today we started desensitizing (I'm hoping to make a challenge and draft horse out of her, as that's her breeding) we did some small obstacles, jumping drums, threw a tarp all over her, got her used to having a whip cracked above her head and all around her, walking over the tarp, dragging the tarp, having feed bags tied around her legs, I also have this aweful airhorn thing... Like you press this thing and it makes anaweful sound, had all the dogs howling, but she didn't flick an ear at it, all good exposure!... we did it all from the ground, next session will be ridden, but She was a DREAM! The whip took a bit longer but she eventually accepted it, and I am so damn happy! I have no doubts as to whether I'll keep her now, I'm just too happy with her, she's so clever.
