**Sorry this is long, but I just need help with my gelding**.

January of 2013 I was slow loping my gelding through the barrel pattern just to keep him tuned. On the backside of the 2nd barrel, his hind end slipped right out from underneath him, as soon as he pushed up to get up his front end slipped also. It was as if he was Bambi. I stopped the pattern and walked him out for a while to make sure he was okay. After the fall, I gave him about a week or so off to see how he was doing. Nothing appeared to be wrong. So I put him back to work. March of 2013, 2 months after our fall, he got sent out to barrel training. He was in training for 3 months. I had a race with him in May of 2013 and that is when I noticed something was different. He started rearing at the gate and tossing his head and refusing to go in. I thought he was just being an ass so I had my trainer walk me in the gate. Once I got him going he was fine. He came back from training June 1st of 2013. I was so eager for him to come back so after a few days I started the pattern back up as I was getting ready to start hauling and seasoning him. But he started bowing out of his turns and such, I thought I was giving him the wrong cues, so with determination I worked hard to fix what I thought was wrong. Once his feet were due, we called out our farrier and, being a roper, he was always hitting up roping events, so the ranch owner decided to throw a fit and have her farrier do my geldings feet. I was out of town at this time, once I got back my geldings feet were messed up..this dumbass farrier decided it was a swell idea to shoe the sole rather than the hoof wall. My horse had 12 nails total in both of his hind feet. We were in the middle of moving and he relocated and then my gelding started blowing abscess after abscess. We had the vet come out and look at him and he told me to have pads put on him because he was bruised from the horrible shoeing. I called my new farrier out immediately and that is how I found out about the incorrect shoeing. So after about 6 months of being out of service, January of 2014 I was finally able to ride my horse again! I put him on the pattern and he was doing great better. Then we had a huge thunderstorm and then once it was clear after a few days I went to go get on him and he would rear up not letting me get on. I couldnt even tie him up and put a pad on him because he would literally rear, so when I untied him and tried he bolted. I decided that at this point I needed the chiropractor out. He was really bad. I had to have the chiropractor out a total of 5 or 6 times now, each time has helped little by little but i cannot invest anymore money into this horse by chiropractic when its not really working as it should be. Im thinking there is an underlying cause on to why this is happening. Now when I get on him he rears, he has sent me to the ER. I know it is not attitude because this horse was never ever like this. He tries to please and he wants to have a job, but he just cant. Now he is so easy to get out of alignment. He is still young, he is 8, he will be 9 in May. I know for a fact that he can never be a barrel horse again, so he will retire just as an easy riding horse and trail horse. But I just want my horse back so I can ride him. Seems like he has been hurting for so long that it is now a psychology issue and he still thinks he is hurting. He anticipates pain a lot. When he fell last year I had no clue as to why, but now learning all this new information I hope I can still save him. I am just boggled as to why this keeps re-occuring. Im thinking the fall last year really torqued him up. I keep trying the chiro work and its not helping at this point. I am not a SMV but I can definitely tell its in his back, front, and hind end.

SO....with all this being said...here come the questions.

how would you guys go about finding a proper diagnosis AND prognosis?
what are some therapy options to help with this?
What do you guys think is up?
Do you think this horse is savable?
what would you guys do?
any advice is needed! Thank you so so much

I would have the vet out to help pinpoint what is going on.

I would take him to a good lameness vet and have them go over every inch of him.  When he was at the trainers did he act this with her/him?

I would definitely take him to a good vet and have everything checked out.

Vet check

Could have started out with hocks, stifle, suspensory and since he has been forced to work in pain he probably has developed ulcers and this is why he is difficult to get on, saddle, gate issues, etc

Horses generally don't have gate issues unless they are in pain.

Thank you guys! And he got sent out to training March 2013 and I went down and jumped on him cold turkey for a race and my trainer had to walk him in. But i guess he done some rearing at the trainers i hear. So I hear that a Sports Medicine Vet can pinpoint and pick out more things than what a regular vet can. Is this true? Shall I go with a SMV or just a vet? I live in CA so I thought about sending him to UC Davis which has infrared and stuff like that.
