| Who runs in a hackamore?
Which kind of hackamore?
Why do you run a hackamore over a bit?

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I used to run my old mare in a Little S. I did it because she's a "my way or the highway" type horse and I realized she knew more than I did so it was best I stay out of her way and let her go. |

We were using a jr cow horse. and on a whim I decided to give it a try since my horse is very easy going and has a good handle, I can ride him with a neck rope he's so easy going. I like the less is more theory with my horses. I put one on him and he was relaxed and happy, ran like a dream our first out with it on and won the barrel race, and our first win. and so far so great!
I like the hack because I feel like sometimes I can get too dependent on the bit and it isn't fair. I know that I mentally and physically back off when I know there is nothing in their mouth and me pulling on it isn't going to do much other than stop, and that I need to revert to riding with my body and legs. |

| I use a Jim Warner on my guys.
I run my one gelding in it because he hates bits. The ONLY bit I've found that he doesn't throw his head in is a chain ring snaffle, but he runs through it in competition, so I use the hackamore to keep ahold of his nose. |

| I have a goosetree hack that my gelding loves. I switched because I felt that during an actual run I was in his mouth WAY too much. And he tends to like this better than me hanging on his mouth. |

Location: California | I run my mare in a Jim Warner. I have ran her in it for probably about 8 years and she loves it. She doesn't need me to help her rate barrels at all and keeps her shoulders up naturally in the barrels, but she gets pissy if I am on her face at all. I use longer reins with the Jim Warner and it makes for the perfect combination for us. |

Location: White Mountains of AZ | I use a Little S hack on my mare just for barrels. I've tried her in who knows how many bits, and always come back to it. She knows her job and the S-hack is just something there to make sure there is something on her. :) |

I've got two horses running in hacks right now and actually if I run them the same day I'm going to have to switch reins between runs or put Joker in a different one. Clifford just stole Joker's Jim Warner hack last weekend so Joker is going to end up back in the "trap hack" that I bought cheap on ebay a few years ago. I love the JW because it keeps me out of their faces during a run. Literally I think I could run any of my horses in it. Love that hack.
I've used a Little S and a longer shanked L&W hack before and I keep them in my trailer but usually just ride in them because I love my JW for running. |

Location: on my horse | I rode my guy in a stiver, I had him in a little S and he was a little bit sloppy feeling and was starting to push on my hands a little bit. Some wonderful saintly person on here who's name I can't remember suggested the stiver because I could still keep lots of good bend if I needed it and that thing was just the ticket. It kept me out of his face so he feels free enough to do his job but if I needed to pick him up I could. |

Location: Randolph, Utah | I decided to try a hack on my mare, all I had was the little s, I like her in a hack but didn't love the little s, maybe I didn't have it set right but it seemed flimsy, the shank would flip up while I was warming up. I think I'll try the jim Warner it seems a little more stable. |
