My gelding has one blue and one brown eye. His blue eye isnt a normal eye persay it looks kinda like an Australian shepards eye with the blue and black all kinda mixed. (I forgot what that is called and will get a picture for you all tonight). Any way his blue eye leaks a lot. And its a constant leak sometimes its not as bad, some days it will barely leak at all if not just not leak for a day but it is a constant drippy eye. I was reading a post on fb about another gals horse who had this and people were saying clogged tear duct, or maybe the start of a cataract. So I was curious all of your experiences with one and what you all may think it would or could be. If anything at all. My friend has also mentioned maybe moon blindness but I havent had a vet out to access him yet. But I will as soon as I can. If it helps he is a 13 yr. Old arab/paint. Thank you in advance for your replies!

ETA- He is the horse in my profile picture!

I had one like this. Was a clogged year duct. The vet came to do teeth and he inserted this small tube through the tiny hole in their nose and ran it up thru the tear duct and then blew air. It was fascinating. Fixed the problem

yeah they flush the nasolacrimal duct. It's pretty cool to watch. That would be my first thought, and then if he continues to tear a lot and/or acts like his eye hurts I would start thinking about other things.

I'm assuming the leaky eye is the one surrounded by pink skin. He may be super sensitive to sunlight in that eye. Does it run if kept in a stall not exposed to direct sunlight? Have you tried a fly mask? I don't know if you could put some dark stuff around his eyes like the athletes use to help with sun reflection.

Yes his blue eye is more sensitive and has the pink around it. I have tried keeping a fly mask on him and it still leaks. And he is semi accident prone so I cant keep it on 24/7. Lol!.. if it isnt raining he goes out during the day. If it is raining he stays in his stall until I get there at night.

If it is a clogged tear duct what damage may that cause if not dealt with or not dealt with in time?

Tears keep the eye moist, helps rid it of dust, foreign substances, etc. A clogged tear duct will often cause "gunk" to form in the corners of the eye and lower eyelid as it has no way to wash away the foreign substances.

Ok that makes more sense now instead of it cleaning the eye and keeping it moist it just leaks out.
