Why would a horse start doing this? She has done this the last two barrel races  we have gone to. Just wondering if it means something. Thanks.

No idea why but I had two geldings always do it after the run as I am stopping them.

Both fast horses, and both did it every run

Mine does it. He's not terribly fast and I think he's just happy to be done!

She gets very nervous before she runs, maybe she is just happy to be done. Thanks for the replies.

My mare does this as well after every run and I have often wondered what the heck she is doing it for?

Are there horses standing by the outgate? I've never had a horse do that or seen one do that, but I would assume they were nickering at the other horses. But who knows, animals are strange sometimes haha.

Mine would do it because he was buddy sour. He always looked for his hauling buddy when he came out of that alleyway.

We had a bulldogging horse that would do it when the guys came off on a steer (I hazed so I heard it up close and personal) but he would buck if they didn't get it the hole. Especially if they half climbed off and then scrambled back on. I always chalked it up to him being happy they were both doing their job :)

Check an make sure your horse is not bleeding. I have seen several who nicker r blow out there nose after a run who are bleeding. You may not see blood come out nostrils but have a vet scope them within 12 hours to find out.

Have them scoped after a run for bleeding.
