Itsme - 2014-11-04 11:13 PM "The standard pattern, no other organization, runs on a standard pattern all year, why should the American? Makes no sense." A-I didnt ask you guys to critique my ideas, but add some of yours or simply reply I like it 100% the way it is. B-"No other organization runs on a standard pattern all year" Thats exactly my point, this to me would be an opportunity to help create even more excitement and buzz about this race. Having all the races staked the same size, it could be a standard pattern or an "American pattern" staked smaller, but the excitement it created would be crazy in my opinion. Imagine seeing a lady down in Florida smoke a run that is 2 tenths faster than anyone in the earlier races then the anticipation on how she would and or could perform for the $1 million!! To ME it would bring it to yet another level, and yes I do believe The American is one of the best things to happen to barrel racing in...years,ever?
If you want the same size pattern, to be able to compare barrel racers times across the country. Then you will need the same dimensions of arena, and You would need the same footing Without these being the same, times will be affected Hey why not rake after every person too that way everyone gets the same chance

Do you REALLY believe that the footing at the NFR is the SAME every year to set arena records??? There is an excitement when someone breaks the WPRA record on a "standard" pattern......regardless of the arena.....By having the same size pattern, it would, at the very least, serve as a barometer for comparison of runs. I think it is a good idea.

I know the footing is not the same every year, and I believe there has been a pattern change in the years it has been in Vegas too.

schnitkey - 2014-11-05 3:41 AM You may think the alcohol part is funny, but it is not. When your producers are drunk during the show, the crew in charge of the gates are drunk during the show and a portion of your tractor drivers are out back getting drunk its not funny. It's dangerous and a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I wouldn't care what they were.. as long as they did their job and remained professional.. who cares?  I know more people than I care to count that are NEVER sober.  As a matter of fact, on occassion, I ask "what is wrong with them?" and get told... "they are sober"... There are more people in the world that you or I could ever imagine that are functioning alcoholics, or at least are still able to be repectful and do their job while drinking.  Some of the best jackpots/rodeos I have been to, the whole crew was drinking.  Don't get me wrong, I have seen some take it too far, or not be able to handle themselves professionally under the influence too, and those aren't so fun.   But as I stated above, as long as they did their job, remained professional and couteous.. WHO CARES!

p.s. I know now you will start telling stories of how they werent professional.

Sorry… But I think that is a TERRIBLE attitude to have. Of course we should care… It's that kind of attitude that let's someone drive away drunk and kill a family. Take it from someone who has lots of experience with "functioning" addicts. Their day will come, let's just hope that it's not at someone else's expense. And for the record… I DO care and I prefer to be affiliated with people who have more respect for themselves and others then to get drunk when they should be sober. Also, I think the way they did the rules was cute and was just meant to be funny.

I never said anything about drinking and driving!  And I personally don't care if my attidute is not in alignment with yours.  I am for sure not going to bash someone that is working the gate at a race I am at for having a few beers.  As long as they open the gate when I go in and out, and they aren't rude to me,  don't cause me and my horse to have a wreck from their inabiltiy to function... carry on!  If the tractor drivers are dragging effectively and efficiently, I really don't care what is in their cup!  Honestly if this is what people are focused on when they should be focused on their run, then it was probably reflective of their focus.  Just another point of people getting in other peoples business when they just need to mind their own!

No, you didn't say anything about drinking and driving, but they have to get to those jobs and they have to leave them too. And if you think that a few beers doesn't impair your judgement, think again. If there is someone working the gate that has had a few beers and some freak accident happens that he or she needs to react to, the situation could be made much worse because their judgment was impaired. And here is a fact… a "functioning" alcoholic is still an alcoholic. Just because you can make it to work, doesn't mean you are any better of an alcoholic than the guy or lady laying on the sofa all day. I think the one on the sofa is probably the better one, because they aren't affecting the lives of those that are out and about doing their daily activities.

And while we are on the subject… If there is someone reading this that needs help to stop drinking, go get it. There are so many people out there that are willing to help you, you do not have to live like that anymore. YOU DO MATTER AND PEOPLE DO CARE. You can do it!

Hmmmmm? Makes it kind of hard to announce an "arena record" then doesn't it?

Since we are off in left field now, I would love for the standard pattern to be shorten so all arena's can set one up.  Yup, yup, heck why not.

I'm with FC on this one… I think they should shorten the standard pattern so that it could be used in more venues. Or they could have a choice of standard patterns… A, B, C or D… to fit the size of the arena. That would give you some standards for all size arenas, from the small indoor to the big outdoor patterns. You just pick the size of the pattern to fit the venue and there would be recorded times for all size patterns. There are only a few venues that wouldn't fit those standards… Pendleton, and maybe some of the tiny 13 second pens.

Just a thought. Edited to say, it's raining and I'm bored, lol.

I agree with this and Grinandbearit took it even farther. This should have been done a long time ago.

How can we get this going?

NICE!!

Some people took this for what it was, a potential positive idea for a new powerful producer and expanded on it.

I love it... Darla just ran a 15.4 on a #3 pattern....That would be some cool $hit there.

Itsme - 2014-11-04 7:19 PM Why would I answer teh questions? I posted a couple opinions, one was strongly favored by some and the other not so much.
I honestly don't know the questions because I didn't read past alcohol, but my answer to this question is because we're bored, I don't have cable and I'm on my third beer..... :)

does captain morgan and zero coke count?
