| Mine looked very similar to yours. Dr. remove smaller piece and reattached the tendons and ligaments. Cast for 10 days then brace for a month. Had to go to physical therapy to stretch out reattached tendons and ligaments. Can't remember how long it hurt but was awhile. Back on a horse in 6 weeks against dr. Advice. Good luck.quite painfully first month. |

Location: Michigan | Not in half, but into 7 pieces. Had surgery with pins & wire, a walking cast from mid thigh to top of ankle, another surgery to remove pins & wire as my body rejected it after 4 months. Did PT for 3 months. I was able to ride (doctor not knowing it) after 3 months. My foot was not in a stirrup and I had to mount from the opposite side as it was my left knee.
The whole ordeal was very painful. The wost was when the cast came off & my leg was about the size of a pencil. The most painful was learning to bend again and riding the stationery bike at PT. I cried & cried trying to get that pedal all the way around. Had to wake my muscles up in my thigh to learn to do leg lifts again. If you can stand it (I couldn't) have them do the electromagnetic pulse thing on your thigh (or go to your vet and have shockwave done - I did that). I am very active and I went from that to being on crutches. Good luck. Whatever you do, do your PT exercises - while watching TV, whenever. Just do them to regain your mobility and strength. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | 10 months before I could walk without crutches. don't let them try to make you start walking without crutchs at 3 months the bones are not strong enough yet. I had a plate put in to keep from making a dip in my knee so it wouldn't lock up. Take your time healing it is very painful. |

Location: The birthplace of Honest Abe | We arent sure how it broke, I was walking with friends and heard a snap and face planted. I had an injury alreay to the knee area from june. Riding accident, fracture in plateau of tibia torn miniscus, and badly sprained knee. Then I fell a month later on top of that. Dr thinks I may have had a hairline fracture they didnt see from the fall. I am supposed to be getting screws and wires myself. |

Location: The birthplace of Honest Abe | Jake16, dang I am sorry to hear about your husband. hope you take the driver to the cleaners. My kneecap itself is pretty much healed, I have 2 screws and a wire holding it together. The PT is taking me awhile though, Im only at 50degrees of bend since the surgery Sept 3. If we cant get much more we may have to surgically break the scar tissue up. Just know that I am working hard at it. thanks everyone. |
