Location: Peach State | So my horse has bad allergies and the vet suggest albuterol, my concern is that it will cause him to be very agitated (I know it makes human's heart race) he's already pretty wired up as it is (like most appendix bred barrel horses) He is also 18 and has bled once so I'm concerned about the albuterol increasing his blood pressure causing EIPH.
Now I understand why my vet believes albuterol will help. He clearly has inflammation and I'm hoping that maybe opening up his airway might alleviate some of his anxiety if he can breathe better, which could in turn NOT make his blood pressure increase.
Just wanted some advice or experiences shared |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | Vitaflex vitamins and DMG- This makes the lungs stronger allowing for better breathing. Vitamic C/K is also your friend in this matter. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | I used these on my barrel horse my husband tried to get him to relax so he made a few trips up the mountain and back, he was still jigging when we came home. That boy had some lungs. He didn't realize how fit I had him. LOL |

| My good horse uses an inhaler. He has dust allergy of all things. I just stick it up his nostril and close the other off. 3 puffs and done. It has not made my horse high at all. I like ventipulman better. But it does make them nuts for couple hours. I give 5 hours before a run. |

Location: Texas | It doesn't always make them nuts and it doesn't always cause tachycardia. Clenbuterol is often used in conjunction with lasix for bleeders because it open the bronchioles and makes it easier on the capillaries in the lungs. Although, if you've ever had a bleeder you will know that what works for one horse won't always work for another. |

Location: Bandera, TX | I've used albuterol in the gel form that you squirt in the mouth and the inhalation form that you give via a nebulizer treatment. I don't feel the horse gets as amped up on the nebulized medicine.
Look into bev's bleeder and allergy formula. it helps horses with nagging allergies that are bleeding.

Location: Buffalo, TX | I always used Ventipulmin on my rodeo mare 5cc morning and night a couple days out but only once the morning of a run....it never made her nuts...I used it because she had a mild allergy that kept her bronchial tissue slightly inflammed and this brought the tissue back to normal....it helped her greatly...

| I used Albuterol on my horse and I thought that it helped him and did not cause him to be anxious. I made a Nebulizer by cutting off the large end of a 5 gallon water jug. I would put his nose in the large end and then squirt the inhaler in the small end. I did this 20 to 30 minutes before I ran. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | I would think if it's given regularly their body would get used to it. But if you give it to them only when you are running them then yes they will get excited it does increase the heart rate.
I did allergy testing on my mare that has really bad allergies and the formulated shots have made a tremendous difference! |

Location: South Central Florida | I have used it on our bleeder. I think we have used it on 2 or 3 horses over the years and we have not had the anxiety problem. Our Vet always prescribed it and the doseage. I have read on here about it causin g issues but have not had any. Its just too expensive for me to use a lot. |

| Ventapulimun (sp) it lasts a good while if you give it,several hours out if,it does make them a little jittery it,will be,gone in several hours. But it may work,the oppsite as if they can breathe the may be less antsy. You could also use a little dex. Will open airways also |

| My horse not only has allergies but also had some lung damage from an illness, I have liquid albuteral that I give orally. It doesn't change his demeanor at all. I have used venti (Clem) and had the same results as far as a lack of coughing from both meds, and the albuteral is much cheaper |
