I am going to look at a horse in Kansas and if I like him I want to do a vet check. Can someone recommend some good horse vets in Kansas? I want a good performance horse vet; not a backyard vet. Thanks

Where is the horse located? Depending on that ... you may actually be closer to a good vet in another state ....

I've lived several places in Kansas and can give you names of vets I think are pretty good. I'll preface this by saying that if I have a really mysterious weird lameness, I am almost certainly headed out of state.
That said, I use Duane Droge at Eureka and have had good experiences with him for years. He just doesn't have the newest equipment to pinpoint subtle mystery lamenesses.
Dr. Hickman at Andover is a vet and chiropractor, and I think he knows his stuff pretty well. He comes to Eureka every so often and I've had him adjust my horses several times.
At Great Bend, there's a Dr. Matt Fehr at Animal Health Center who is a vet and chiro.
Up by Topeka at Meriden, Dr. Jeff VanPetten does vet and chiro work as well.
I think there's a vet who also does accupuncture in southeast KS at Cherryvale - Cotterill - though I've not used him.
Another one I've heard highly recommended is Elite Equine - Dr. Quinley Koch. I think she's in central KS.

ETA two more that I just thought of.
People have said good things about Heartland Equine in Tonganoxie if you're in the Kansas City area.
My boyfriend likes Dr. Bob McCrady at Raymore, MO for lameness stuff. That's pretty close to KS if you're near the KC metro area.

Thanks all. I think it would be closest to Heartland so that is probably where I will go unless I can make a deal that in contingent on my normal vet here in TX

Eric and Kelly Carlson are the vets at Heartland Equine Hospital, Tonganoxie, KS and they are well versed in performance horses, they both spent time at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky and have quite a following of top equine athletes in the Midwest already. They also come from a long line of reining, hunter jumper and show horse family. I wouldn't hesitate to have an evaluation done there!

Dr. Quinley Koch at Elite Equine.  She travels.  I had her do a prepurchase exam on one I bought and she is my main vet. I highly recommend her. Very thorough, easy to talk to, and she knows her stuff!
