Has anyone's horses ever dealt with a torn meniscus and mcl tear? If so, what did your vets end up doing for treatment and was your horse ever the same again? I am currently going through this and am absolutely devastated right now.

I am going through this right now. We did a PRP treatment when he was diagnosed and he has been on stall rest for 3 months with a MCL shoe. He has been getting respond laser treatments 2-3 times a week and lives in his PHT bell boots. I have also been feeding him Nutrawound daily. He was actually just rechecked yesterday and my vet was very pleased with how he is responding. I still have another 3-4 months before he can return to hard work but I am very hopeful he will come back from it. Good luck with your horse.

I had one. It was a booger to figure out until we let the vet scope his stifle and he found it. They cleaned up the frayed edges and did stem cells and almost a year off. That was well over 2 years ago and he hasnt needed anything since in the hind end until recently we did his hocks.

Thank you so much for replying. Did both of your horses have tears in the meniscus as well as the MCL?

How have you been able to keep your horse calm and sane on stall rest?

It was back in 95, before all this fancy stuff they have these days. Had exploratory surgery done at WSU and the found the meniscus was torn.  Everyone advised I put him down (it was a gelding) except the surgeon.  He said give him a year, time can be a great healer.  Started off in a 10 x 12 stall, went to a 10 x 20, then a 10 x 30.  At 7 months we turned him out to pasture. I NEVER gave up on him, I was 100% sure in my heart that he would come back...and he did.  I won my first saddle on him, after he came back!  He would still have the occassional swelling, but always stayed sound.  He went to a young girl at 23 years old and thats where I lost track of him.  They promised him a forever home...and they lied

My horse's stifle was injected with HA and cortisone to see if it would make her more comfortable and although she has a torn meniscus and MCL, she is no longer lame on it so I am hoping this is a good sign that with further treatment and rest, she can make a come back.
