Location: Somewhere around here | I was watching a few girls run with a treeless saddle (couple of different brands) and I noticed only one or two had a back cinch on. The other girls didn't but their saddles also weren't bouncing around in the back and stayed pretty quiet on the horse. I know the main reason to have a back cinch on is to keep the saddle in place and not having it bump up but if a treeless fits your horse really well, would you even need or want a back cinch on? |

| I can't speak for treeless saddles but I have noticed a trend in the Texas area that a lot of the younger crowd is not using a back cinch. I hear a lot say so they can kick and not have the back cinch in the way. I would not ride without a back cinch but that is my own opinion. |

Location: CTX | I always use a back cinch no matter what saddle I use. That way I know it won't bounce, and yes, it is snug.... Also it gives me a little more security in case something happens with the regular cinch.
ETA I have both treed and treeless saddles.

Location: NE Texas | Some of my saddles have a back cinch and some do not. Honestly I think on a barrel horse it can be somewhat of a hindrance at times and be counter productive. |

Location: Canada | I do not ride with a back cinch for barrels or every day riding. My saddles do not pop up in the back at all on any of my horses at the moment. Granted they are all built extremely similar so it's no wonder it fits them all the same.
Now, if my saddle did pop up in the slightest I would put one on but I would make sure it's snug. Having a loose back cinch is a huge pet peeve to me as is not having it connected to the front cinch. Every time I see that I just think... bronc riding session starts in 3...2....1...

This ^^^ and I've had instances where my front latigo has sanpped...I was very thankful for that back cinch! |

Location: on my horse | I ride just general every day riding without a back cinch and when I'm tuning on the pattern or making a run I use one for extra security. I hate it for general riding because I feel like it gets in the way of my leg (my saddle is a round skirt, has something to do with it I think).
No matter what I always always always have a breast collar on my saddle though. |

| I'm really struggling with this. I have ALWAYS ridden with a back cinch without fail but the new mare I bought never had been ridden with one. My girlfriend said if the saddle fits correctly, you don't need a back cinch (she is a 2X AQHA world champ, multiple Prairie Circuit winner so she's not inexperienced). For now, I tied mine up behind the cantle with baling string but I really think I'd like to use it - just don't want a rodeo, should I start with it barely touching her belly the first couple of rides, then snug it up? |

Put it on like you would if you were going to ride in it. Then free lunge her in a round pen to see if she's going to do anything. Most broke horses won't even notice it. Just make sure you do all the gaits so she knows how it feels at all speeds
I prefer a back cinch just because that's what I feel comfortable. I don't think it affect my leg or riding at all. |

| I always laugh because half the time I see horses with a back cinch on, they are hanging about 6 or more inches inches. Whats the point then? ride without one. |

Location: Up and over to the right | Exactly, just a broken leg or saddle in the making. I ride with one all the time (w/ a breast collar) and it's snug on him, I also check it after I get on because it'll loosen up when you sit in the saddle. |

Location: Louisiana | First thing I did when I got my Bob Marshall was order a back cinch. I feel more secure with one. At home I ride with it snug, I get it one hole tighter when I run-just like the front cinch. |

| I've run in my treeless saddles without back cinches, but I prefer to have back cinches on them. I have two mares that set and turn hard and the back cinch keeps the saddle from popping up! A lot more comfortable for them to have the back cinch, in my opinion! And I ride with my back cinches snug. I don't like seeing loose back cinches.. |

Location: Cypress, Texas | I think its kinda like the whole running with or without a breast collar deal. All my saddles have back cinches, I like the feel. Plus I think it comes from my uncle and all his rope horses always had them on, I feel weird without one on. I ride with both a treeless and a treed

Location: Running barrels or watching nascar | I took both the back cinch and the breastcollar off one of my saddles. I started to kick the back cinch or worry that I'd get a spur caught. The breastcollar was pinching my horse's chest. This particular horse is more comfortable now w/o 'stuff' on her. |
