I have 1 that will set back a couple times a year, which I wouldn't call a habit.  He must spook at random stuff.  I tie him to twine, he won't go far, and call it good.

The whole inner tube thing scares me, I was at a rodeo once where a horse set back, then lunged forward, knocked himself out, died on the spot.  I think if I had one that was habitual, I would use a tie blocker ring.

I use the clip and love it. You have to use the lead ropes with the smooth finish not the big bulky ones.

It seems to not pull through as easy as the Blocker ring, so I was worried. Will try it. I have both.

We used to have a mare that would set back. We discovered that if we tied her just a bit longer, so she could look around, she would not set back. Broke many halters and snaps before discovering her quirks!!

I really like the Clinton Anderson rope halters. I have had mine set back for various reasons throughout the years and nothing broke, they did not get loose and I was easily able to get the halter off afterwards.

redmanth - 2014-11-20 4:22 PM you said to put lead rope through both loops?? do you run through trailer tie and then tie ends? do I then tie my lead rope? thnx for good info.

Yes, tie a knot in the inner tube and let both loops hang down and thread your lead through BOTH loops...one loop stretches too far and they can reach the ground..

The tie ring worked for me, he's a real cool guy but liked to pull back on occasion. Before I knew he'd pull back being tied for a bath so I stood with a rope around his butt and "bumped" him forward and surprisingly he listened. I only do that when I am pretty positive he'll do it. he hasn't done it in a long time.. **knock on wood**
