No to accounting. That's what I originally wanted to do and if you want to make any real money you will be working your a$$ off. And during tax season forget about your horses. You will have the money to hire someone to take care of them but kind of defeats the purpose. I say go into Marketing, that's what i'm doing and I have yet to find a negative thing about it. Simple 4 year degree, crazy good salaries, and flexible schedules. Plus super useful if you ever want a horse business.

What does your job in marketing involve? I am undecided in my major right now but I want to do 4 yrs and the marketing area interests me..thanks

I love my new job! I work for a casino in the vault. I count money! I work 10 pm to 6:15 am right now my days off are sundays and Mondays. I have had so much time, and with winter here I can ride during the day (don't have lights) and I can do my errands and whatever else. After my 90 days (I have 30 more to go) I can use my PTO time which I am accruing during probation period. Right now I am just jackpotting so I haven't really missed any races yet. As far as the big 2-3 day races to go, gonna save my pto for the ones I want to go to. Not sure if this is what I want to do forever but it is working now. Also, we get bonuses every six months. If first shift ever comes open I might consider that, because it is from 6:00 to 2:00 pm. Also, they have a soft count that is only the morning shift from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm. I really debating about soft count, but decided that I am gonna stay where I am at because I like it so well, hate to switch and not like it. Maybe this spring I will switch. The only bad thing about what I am doing now is leaving my husband at night time even though I see him more now.

Don't discount anything. If you told me in highschool I'd be working for one of the largest energy producers in the US and loving it, I'd have thought you were nuts! There's such a huge variety of jobs within the one company, many having nothing to do with actual energy production. I'm currently a dispatcher and am going to school for Computer Informatin Systems and hope to stay with the company forever. Dispatching isn't a bad gig for now. If you work full time you work 12 hr shifts alternating between Wed/Thurs one week and Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat/Sun the next. Plus unlimited overtime, ability to trade shifts with people, generous vacation and sick time, and overall decent pay (not making the big bucks but I make double what my friends my age make).

aquinnell - 2014-11-20 5:01 PM Dental Hygiene   I work Mon-Thurs 7am-4pm and make a lot of money   Plus I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job!!
I would absolutely LOVE those hours! Is that full time though? Just curious!

Thanks ks cowgirl for the insight...anything with flexible hours or where you can work Monday to Thursday is most interesting to me.
It is possible, but it would be with a small local CPA firm. The hours however, would be over 40 during January-April if you are doing tax.
For dental hygiene yes thats considered "full time".  Most offices around here are also open fridays, but only for half days.  I make right around $65000 a year and Ive only been out of school 2 years
How many years is it? I've been wanting to go to school for it for awhile, but most programs I've looked into was a 2 year program.

I went threw an "accelerated" program and finished in 2.5 years (after generals are complete) but typically DH is a 4 year degree

Yep I am in the same boat as you. Dispatch for the sheriffs officer. We all work mostly 12s which mean you only work half as much during the year as your average 9-5 gig. We work every other weekend but tons of PTO and people are willing to help you out. I pickup a lot of OT and trades in the winter and they don't mind helping me out in the summer.

I currently work one of the few 10s we offer. I have every thurs fri off and every other sat/sun. I love that part about my shift. I work nights 4p-2a but it is nice because I can ride during the day before its dark.

I am working towards being a probation officer. Which is typically 8-4:30 but you do have some nights/weekend times but its pretty flexible.

Dispatch doesn't require a degree and depending on the type of dispatching it can be really helpful. Now corrections/probation does require typically a 4 year. And with that comes student loans... do you have about as much money as a minimum wage person until the loans are paid off
