14yr old gelding apha nothing special in his papers. He is a youth horse runs 3/4d barrels, 23 poles, goats and you can rope on him. This is all in south Texas around San Antonio. I have an idea in my head but want some input. They are looking at partial trade on one of my horses. Thanks

If he is completely solid on the poles and barrels and makes the same run every time plus easy in the alley, $8500.  Regardless of how he finished out, someone put alot of time and money into him to make him what he is.  Good confidence building horses for kids aren't cheap.

A few unanswered questions

Is he kid safe, will he go as fast as the kid wants, can a kid trot a competitive pattern (in competition). Does he walk in the alley, will he baby sit?

Roping team roped, break away?

If the answer is yes to all the questions, 5000 as a beginner all around horse for a child who has years to grow with the horse are worth a lot more money to some.

But it may take time to sell the horse as you need the perfect person looking

Yes to your questions. I don't know about roping they are getting me videos. He is kid broke horse. Can go any speed. Runs those times with a kid. He is used for jr high rodeos right now. I have sold slower horses then him for around $4500-$5000 around here so I'm thinking trade value of $5000 that way I have a little room to make money. They are coming to look at two of mine that are 1/2d and one a 1/2d and low 21 sec pole horse.

Yes!  If you can grab him for $5000 you can sell him for $8500.  - Unless you're in Wyoming, then he'd be in the $800 range- :

Thank you we are on the same page. I know how long an how much it takes to make these horses. They are good for the kids and novice and older riders. i am thinking he may be a little bit nicer with an adult riding him. He is a big pretty boy. We will see what he is like when they bring him over.

If you had $5000 in him, around here you would have a hard time making money off of him. Horses like that sell for about $3500-5000 where I'm from.

He would be for sale for a LONG time at $8500. Everyone wants the type of horse you just described for their kid, but no one will pay that for them.

I agree it completely depends on your location- where I just came from he'd be $8500, where I was before that he'd be $5000.
