I have a 16yr barrel horse that is very healthy, good joints, rarely needs injected etc, still running like a champ. I just bought him back having owned him previously years ago..... Even though he is very healthy/sound... should I be giving him any supplements or therapy to keep him in top shape? I know opinions vary but was thinking about a PHT blanket, BOT or poultice and maybe a good joint supplement... he seems to do fine without anything but want to KEEP him that way! I do feed flax seed, Forco, rice bran and lysine to him along with his grain.

I would start an injectable joint supplement(IM) and still feed him a joint supplement everyday. Chiro every 3-6 months, teeth checked regularly, and all that other stuff you mentioned.

I suppliment, lysine, flax with their feed.I also do a daily oral joint (actiflex 5000) and msm, chiro/massage when I feel they need it. I have noticed a difference in my horses when I took them off of msm and joint suppliments for a few months. It took longer for them to warm / limber up. I put them back on and wow! In less than 3 weeks I really noticed! They are much more fluid in their movement! I float teeth regularly like stated above. I do what I can afford though. And just won some BOT products, which I wouldn't be able to afford on the drop of a hat so I am excited to have them to use!i also use poltice and ice boots after a run, and a brace wash to help smooth sore muscles.every horse responds differently though just try and see if it helps your program.:)

I keep my older barrel horses on Animal Element Performance Detox as well as the Product X. The detox is great for removing toxins, great for the coat, hooves and topline. Product x keeps them feeling good, & they recover faster.

The only thing that really helped my older gelding was injections (hocks). In between he was on pentosan, Legends Performance horse feed and I did magnetic therapy with him (pHT 3 in 1's). I also had him on the AE Detox but I honestly didn't see any difference then when he wasn't on it.
