"How do you go from doing everything I ask so quietly and correctly.....to FLOGGING THAT HORSE LIKE A STAGECOACH DRIVER???"
I censored what was actually said, but you get the idea. |

| I love this one: The Basics - “The sport is very simple because the basics never change,” he said. “We change because we see fashion, all of the horse show business. We get seduced. I don’t because I’m hard-headed. If you’re not hard-headed you get seduced by what is really not riding. “But it’s very difficult and takes a lifetime to get where it is very simple,” he continued. “The basics never change. That’s why you see these great dressage riders. It’s always the same people on top, Anky [Van Grunsven], Isabell [Werth], Steffen [Peters.] They’re always at the top because whatever horse they have, the basics are the same so they produce horse after horse after horse. It’s the same with top jumping riders we have over here. The basics don’t change, it doesn’t get exotic.” |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | One of my bosses years ago was an Olympic hopeful that trained with Michael Plumb under George Morris. She was a perfectionist but man it was good to learn under her! She's the reason I like George Morris so much. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I just love these.
The guy I mentored under was a plain jane kinda guy too that got right to the point. "How are you gonna lay down a smokin run with all that fancy smancy sh#t all in your way. Take it off or get out of my arena until you're ready to ride that ugly cow horse." I cried LOL. I eventually started showing up to practice in a harness leather browband with brown leather reins and the quietest saddle blankets ever. LOL I had to get rid of my "speed beads" too!!! Waaaa |

Take the time and read about George Morris. He has contributed SO MUCH to riding and training in general but speicalizes in hunters/jumpers. As a boy, he was not a "natural" born rider. In fact, his riding instructor told his mother that George would be best suited at the piano or at anything besides riding. George begged, so both his mother and instructor kept working with him.
George has put in the "blood, sweat and tears" when he was riding. He expects everyone else to also. He is tough and expects 110% from riders. A little arrogant but once you know his life story and all his accomplishments, you will have respect and understanding of who he is.
What I hate is how many instructors have tried to copy George and be just like him...........it just doesn't seem to work for any one but George. Instructors should use his methods and style but in their own way. |
