| friends horse is pretty sick. 103 fevor. Bloody nostrils. Gave him a big dose of antibiotics nd vet recommended banimine. And other suggestions? Never hd one get it. |

| Take him to the equine hospital and drop him off to allow the professionals to deal with it. He needs fluid therapy and monitoring.
Otherwise:
Banamine for fever, doxycycline for infection. |

| I also recommend leaving him at the vet. Pneumonia is no joke. Antibiotics, fluids, chest tube, appetite booster. That's what we usually do for our pneumonia patients. |

Location: stray dump capital of the world | Thought mine had pneumonia. Took her to an equine hospital and she needed a trach. Here I was praying it wasn't pneumonia. I'd get the horse in some where and let a professional handle it. |

| I thought he might need fluids. I told her to keep him warm? I dunno they took him to the vet and she sent them back(not really equipped for overnight stays.More farm call type vet) |

Location: stray dump capital of the world | The vet that came out for mine is a mobile vet. He suggested taking her in for a 2nd opinion and an equine facility equipped to handle whatever was going on with her. She had an emergency trach and had we not gone in, she could have died. It's always better to play it safe. |

| My mare had pneumonia this last summer. I took her to the state university vet school. They ultrasounded her lungs, then did a tracheal wash to determine what kind of antibiotics she would need. So glad I spent the money on the tracheal wash. My mare had 4 different bacteria, and one required a special medication.
I did not leave my mare at the vet, they thought she would be okay for me to treat at home. She was on high doses of penicillin and gentamicin for almost a week while we waited on lab results. Once we got the proper medication for the infection she was dosed twice daily for around 2 weeks.
My mare did absolutely nothing but stand around for about 2 months. Then I slowly started legging her back up. She lost quite a bit of weight because she went off of feed for several days and then had a diminished appetite for awhile. I turned her out in a grass pasture during this time to help keep the dust down.
My mare is still having difficulty breathing during work. She already had breathing problems prior to the pneumonia. I put her back in Ventipulmin, but have been able to wean her almost off of it. I also started running her on Dex because she was coughing after a run. So even after the horse is over the infection, they still might have to do some breathing therapies for awhile. I plan to get mine scoped again soon.
